Speaking of making life easier for travelers, there was always something that frustrated me in Vermont. All the Interstate exits are chronological (1,2,3,4 etc.) Every other state has used mile markers to number exits. If you know that you need exit 310 and you are just passing mile marker 300 you know that you have 10 miles to go. It is very helpful in during trip planning. On top of that the fact that Vermont has banned billboards since 1963 has made the ride more scenic, but has made it more difficult for tourist to navigate. The fact that Vermont relies on tourist traffic as the main economic income, one would think that making it easier for tourist would be very important. It really wouldn't be that big a deal. Pass the resolution, give a transition time of around two years and they will have reached out to their primary source of outside income.
OK, I don't live in Vermont anymore, but I did live there a "wicked" long time so I know that the stubbornness of the population would rather starve to death then change anything. Independent is their middle name.
Meeting with the new building owner went much better than expected. Someone in his office had led me to believe he wasn’t doing lease renewals. I was interested in taking over the space next door to mine and joining them. They had sent me a lease for only 18 months, which would make renovations unaffordable.
Nothing is in stone yet, but he was very agreeable, liked my vision, and said “we will make it work.” I am cautiously optimistic (that’s a lot for me lol.)
And I’m partially vaccinated - all before dinner!

Yup. They can use the bridge or go the opposite direction. It's easily avoided. It's more of a convenience than anything. What do people passing thru the area on I - 95 if they have a RV? A hazmat. Do they exit I - 95 before the tunnel and use the 695 beltway with the bridge?
Awful Truth
I don't think the highway department wants to change it in Vermont. For years people have been lobbying for one or two additional exits in areas that were not highly populated when the interstate system was built. Now there are significant areas with higher density of population that do not have direct access the highways. Almost every time that hearings had been held, the biggest argument against them was that they couldn't add exits because how would they number it. If you wanted a new one between 2 and 3 for example it would change every single exit number after #2. They figure it is cheaper to inconvenience hundreds of people then just simply make them connected to the mileage when any number could be added without having to change any others. Vermont is a small state that really doesn't have that many exits to begin with. I can understand it for areas that have a much larger highway system. Here in NC they are attempting to change Highway 64 to I-88, if I remember the number correctly. For the past three or so years they have put up signs saying something to the affect of "Soon to be I-88". This year I noticed that there are still many that have both 64 and 88 listed on them, but I also noticed that there are a few that are just I-88. probably another couple of years before 64 will be gone as a primary number and just be listed as an also 64.Fyi: You might enjoy the highway sign renumbering frolics going on in MA. The report below outlines a lot of what's currently going on, and what's coming up next for the future of this large highway project.
No one can drive in this state to begin with -- can't wait to see all the craziness during this new implementation.

When we’ve gone that way it has usually been way after rush hour. We always plan for rush hour traffic around cities.Don't get caught in Charlotte NC rush hour traffic If you go 81/77 to 26. . It is not good but nothing is like DC/Northern VA traffic on 95. That's insanity.
We found out we're getting a credit for all of our April and May games.Braves just announced opening with 33%.
Great minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We like to be south of DC well before sunrise into NC is even betterWhen we’ve gone that way it has usually been way after rush hour. We always plan for rush hour traffic around cities.
Going through NC/SC/GA is a piece of cake. Just watch out for local sheriff Buford hiding in the trees. They like to pull over out of state drivers. One thing I learned if the cop asks to search your car, respond kindlyGreat minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We like to be south of DC well before sunrise into NC is even better
Usually leave at 2am. In NC before 5. This coming trip the plan is to leave around 7:30pm from youngest’s gym. They are having a final practice before the competition on Thursday. Caravan with another family. Driving through the night (ouch) and then arriving by11 in Orlando. Maybe sooner. I am taking another mom and her daughter in my car. She is pretty loud personality wise so she will keep me awake for sure although I personally prefer quiet so I can listen to the radio. Hope she doesn’t mind my 80’s music in the car. She is a tad bit younger than me.Great minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We like to be south of DC well before sunrise into NC is even better
Emporia, VA has a lot of speed traps as well.Going through NC/SC/GA is a piece of cake. Just watch out for local sheriff Buford hiding in the trees. They like to pull over out of state drivers. One thing I learned if the cop asks to search your car, respond kindly
" I know you are trying to do your job but I respectfully DO NOT consent to a search of my vehicle".
There is a truck stop/gas station in Emporia VA called the Elliott Sadler truck stop. There is a $14 lunch/dinner buffet of Southern cuisine, not much selection but good quality. It is owned by local and retired NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler. There is a shrine of NASCAR items of him in the restaurant. The staff said he comes in frequently since he lives nearby. The VA cops like to pull you over around Emporia . It is near the NC border.Emporia, VA has a lot of speed traps as well.
@donaldtoo , I noticed in one of the TR threads, you mentioned that Bell-ee Crazy Cakes turned 7 yesterday.
Happy Belated 62nd (dog years) Birthday to Belle!!!![]()
Oh, last minute and all, but I ran around the neighborhood early this morning to find some friends to invite to Belle's belated birthday party (photo attached). If a few look a little tired or disinterested, it's only because of the early hour I got them together, for the group photo!
