You keep your peanut butter in the refrigerator? We have always kept ours in the cupboard. Too bad about the oily mess though, that would be a turn off.
ah, many people leave it out (either normal or "natural" peanut butter), as it's easier to spread.

Well, you do occasionally make reference to the fact that cooking is not one of your favorite or skilled talents. I have never refrigerated peanut butter, ketchup or mustard. As for the peanut butter, I have never had any problem with it going bad. Two reasons for that, the first being that from what I remember, the oil will change chemically when refrigerated so it doesn't homogenize with the solids and second, it never lasts long enough to go bad. Hello, my name is Goofyernmost and I am a peanut butter addict.

When I was in the hospital, my Daughter went to my apartment to get some things for me and saw those three things sitting out on my counter and put them into the fridge. It didn't hurt the peanut butter because that was pre-homogenized, and the ketchup and mustard would have to be very old or indirect sunlight and hot to go bad because that is vinegar based which is a preservative. So there I was, appreciative that she wanted to help out, but amazed that I had to still educate my 40 something child. I don't suppose it means much in the long haul, but it does indeed seem like unnecessary work.
I just read the label. If it says "Refrigerate after opening" then I store it in the refrigerator. Otherwise it goes into the cupboard.

Funny story: Have you ever had the ice cream topping that hardens when it's cooled? When I was growing up it was called "Magic shell" and it's like a syrup in a squeeze bottle. You put it on your ice cream and then after 30 seconds or so, it hardens and it's like a shell...kind of like the chocolate dip at Dairy Queen for a dipped cone. Well, it's not widely available here....usually once a year it's available at Aldi or Lidl in the Summer, and only in the last few years. So the first year they had it, I bought like 10 bottles of the stuff because it was only a sale item and not in their normal store offerings. So I brought a few bottles with us to my in-laws for when we were there...ice cream is pretty much the only dessert the Dutch have. They don't eat things like cake or cookies or pie for dessert. IF they eat dessert, it's either yogurt with granola or it's ice cream. So I introduced them to this new topping. Everyone loved it and thought it was so much fun. So we're clearing the table, and without anyone realizing it, my MIL put it in the fridge for storage. :banghead: So the next time we came over, we went to get it out, and none of us could find it in the cupboard. So we finally asked her where it was and she's like "Oh, I put it in the fridge so it wouldn't go bad." Solid as a rock. We still laugh at her for that one and there's a running joke whenever we manage to get some. "Did you put it in the fridge?"
