For every argument, the internet offers a counter-argument.
Consider this:

Diet Soda and The Risk of Type II Diabetes
soda-bottles.jpg

Type II diabetes has increased at an alarming rate in the past few decades and now afflicts about 300 million people worldwide.

This disease is highly associated with obesity and sugar consumption, so some would argue that replacing sugar-sweetened beverages with calorie-free drinks would help.

However, there is no evidence of these drinks being helpful against diabetes.

A study of 6,814 individuals aged 45-85 years, daily consumption of diet soda was associated with a 67% increased risk of type II diabetes (2).

In another study, 66,118 French women were followed for a total of 14 years. Women who consumed the most diet drinks had a 121% greater risk of developing type II diabetes (5).

Data analysis from two large Harvard studies revealed that diet drinks raised diabetes risk in women, but not men. Each daily serving increased the risk of a diabetes diagnosis by 6% (6).

As long as I've been on earth my Mom has drank Diet Coke. She is a Type II Diabetic. My belief is these chemicals mess with the pancreas over time.

I find fault with this study. It assumes that the cause was diet soda. What it notices is a correlation. Were they also eating a lot of sweets? Were they exercising less? I'm very careful of health news articles on the internet. A quick search for this article reveals that none of the websites are names I recognize. Is it really trustworthy? Rule of thumb: if I would not use it on a paper for school, I should be skeptical of it. Not to mention the language is really biased.

Believe me, I've done the research, using websites I do trust and databases that I have access to through school that the bio majors use. I was concerned, but I am really not anymore. There is a lot of speculation, but no concrete proof, that artificial sweetener or diet soda causes any harm. Besides, I trust my doctor. If he has no problem with me drinking artificially sweetened drinks and prefers it over sugared drinks, I trust that

Everyone can find a study that supports their viewpoint. That's the beauty of the Internet.

I disagree with you about Aspartame. They used to think saccharine was perfectly safe too.

For that reason, I drink water primarily. A little mild roast coffee, some weak'ish unsweetened tea, and a single glass of milk, of course. :hilarious:

As long as you're comfortable with it, go for it. Doesn't harm me any. Maybe doesn't harm you either. Depends who you ask. :joyfull:

Coffee=:hungover:. Not a bad thing. My doctor said no coffee when I was in high school and I was getting horrible migraines. He said he thought it was too much caffeine.

If it came between tea with nothing in it, not even a little sweetener, and water, I will take the water. Every. Time.

Used to love drinking milk. But it makes my asthma worse unfortunately, so I cut it out of my diet completely for a while. Now I only put it on milk. I miss the sweet goodness known as chocolate milk.:(

I honestly believe Aspartame only damages those who are either alergic to it.. or when it causes a very strange chemical reaction with other stuff (extremely rare)

Its like how the pepco bismol makers warn you of the SINDROME DE REYE.
a deadly illness that can be made worse with the combination of pepto and other stuff (mainly aspirin).

Yeah, I don't agree with that theory. Jury still out.

Guess who's going to eviction court with her brother tomorrow.
Guess who is not giving him a single penny to remedy his situation.

The truth is that he is just hoping to stall the eviction long enough to find a new place.

My mom left my home and went to stay with him for about 3 weeks before she died. In the 3 1/2 years since, he hasn't moved a single thing of hers.

Her fancy towel still hangs on the towel rack in the main bath. I get creeped out just walking in there. It's almost like I expect her to come walking out from the kitchen asking if I want a tea.
Also he has too many memories of his failed marriage to Tammy in that apartment.

So, like the good Sis that I am, I will sit beside him for the hearing, which depending on the size of the docket, COULD LAST ALL DAY.

Expect to see a lot of me here tomorrow. Like, maybe even more than usual. ;)

I don't sweeten tea or coffee. If it is later in the day I will put a splash of cream in my coffee. I drink a lot of water.
Milk still makes me ill though I only buy Lactaid Milk, it really helps but a quart lasts a month around here. I use it mostly for cooking and toss normally half unless I am making stuffed greenpepper soup.

I used to fly Aerolitoral from San Antonio to Guadalajara when I was a teenager to visit my friend. Small little prop plane with like 9 seats that stopped in Monterrey on the way. I think they call the airline AeroMexico Connect now.

I use to fly in one of those itsybitsy planes from Memphis to Oxford MS every week, one seat on each side of the plane, maybe 9 or 10 seats. It was so loud. I learned to take my runway earmuffs with me. We called them puddle jumpers because they would bounce around on the wet runways sometimes.
