And they didn't broadcast 24/7. :jawdrop: I had to try and explain that to DS when I watched Poltergeist with him. Why are they playing the National Anthem, and showing a flag waving, then nothing. Well son, because after that, there was nothing. Wait, what?
I do so miss the morning test pattern though. I can remember starring at that for what seemed like an eternity waiting for Captain Kangaroo to come on.

I was telling my son that when I was in grade school, I had to do the following-

Call a radio station to request a song, never getting thru.

Have a tape and tape recorder ready for if a song came on.

If I missed a show on tv, I couldn’t watch it on demand... would try to remember to set VCR.

Called a phone number to find out the time and weather.

He especially got a kick out of the last one. 😂

My parents had no home phone in grade school (so they couldn’t call a radio station if they wanted to).

No tape recorder.

No TV.

Going outside gave ‘em their time and weather info.

Oh yea, and they did their homework by kerosene lamp...no joke.

:D:hilarious:

Bought my stereo when I was overseas (SEA)and had it shipped home, the brand was Teac, think they are still in business. can't remember the brand of speakers, big sat on the floor, they could put out the sound. IRON BUTTERFLY IN-A -GADDA- DA-VIDA~IN probably why I have hearing lose now HA HA -- I look every now and then on eBay and can find someone selling the same one I had but without my tapes --no point. Don't know if the 8 track works had it in my 56 Chevy back in high school. Saved the 8 track wish I saved and still had the 56

Very familiar with “Iron Butterfly” and the like...all of the 60’s music was also resurgent during the 80’s. I was a huge “Doors” fan as well. Jim Morrison was a sick mother, but, I loved most of their music...Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger, John Densmore...it was all awesome stuff...!!!!!

Also, my pop owned both a ‘55 and a ‘57 Chevy back in the day (the ‘57 had the Power Pack with the gold trim)...he used to wanna’ kick himself in the beeeeeeehind for lettin’ ‘em go too, but, I think he’s past it now...I guess you start to let certain things go a bit at age 87+...!!!!! :hilarious:;)

This was probably the worst New Hire Training I've done. Normally someone at least says something. I got on, tried to do a sound check...crickets. After the third time, someone finally said yes, they could hear me just fine. Then I asked if everyone was there. The response I got was "Uh, we dunno." I waited a few minutes...more people popped on. I did the presentation...no questions. Then everyone jumped off in silence. Really? 🤦‍♀️
