It's scary, for sure. A lot of my friends are opting to homeschool their kids rather than have them forced into an environment that is possibly unsafe. I agree that parents and kids are ready for things to go back to normal, but most don't want to do it if it can't be done safely. I think the whole WORLD wants to get back to some normalcy. I would LOVE to go on vacation this Summer. But only if we could go safely. If I could, I'd grab my daughter and do a mother daughter trip to Disneyworld, but there is no way I'd go to Florida right now with cases spiking and no end in sight, and having to wear masks in the heat of the summer. There's just no way, as much as I WANT it to be possible. I wonder how many parents are going to have issues with this. It's ultimately up to the parents whether they send their kids back to school or homeschool themselves. As of Monday our school district K-8 has had a dramatic impact filing for both retirement and one year leave. We could have more first year teachers then 4 year tenure. Teachers are not buying into the safety of 5 days a week within a small square footage for 25 students everyday plus a teacher and an aide.
So happy I am not on this board any longer and I pray for the board. Last week they let the parents choose in school education or cyber learning. Today if the students are not in building Federal funds would be pulled by administration. Bankrupt a school district or force students, staff and their families into questionable health risks?
I made some questionable decisions I wish I had take backs on. I made some excellent decisions on behalf of students excelling. I cannot imagine the weight of choosing between the health and well being of students, staff and all of their families over the threat of Feds defunding local state schools. Makes me want to cry.
