So I am watching the news and I'm really surprised the Disney has not decided to postpone their reopening. When they closed, there were around 1000-1500 new cases per day in Florida. They peaked earlier this week at around 9500 cases in one day! Yesterday was over 6000...so if they are adding 5-6 times the number of cases per day that they had when they closed, how can they reopen? I keep expecting to see an announcement, but so far nothing. Anyone else wondering if they will actually open as predicted?

Unless the mayor stops it or the union strikes, I think it keeps going. Should it, probably not but Disney probably wants some kind of income coming in. Everyone also forgets that all other parks are open too.

The new thread that will go into the graveyard soon is corona and Disney.

It's a scorcher today with a feels like of 96*.

My neighbor runs a lawn care business and does most of our neighborhood's lawns, including ours. He's out there in the full sun doing lawns right now. I don't know how he does it because just being outside makes me sweaty. I remember a few years back I couldn't do anything in Ohio summers, so maybe I'll eventually be at his level. He's so impressive.
The second year I was here in NC, the apartment building I was in needed a new roof. The crew consisted of mostly Spanish speaking folks. Man were they hard workers. Here's the deal, they were wearing heavy boots, long pants, t-shirt covered by a long sleeve flannel shirt and, of course, standard for down here, a baseball cap. The actual temperature (not index) was 106 degrees. They were putting on a roof on a three story building with applying black shingles. I honestly was waiting for some to die, but no one seemed to be even fazed by it. I even watched them frantically attempting to cover a roof while a massive thunderstorm was crashing all around us. Just amazing! Not the safest thing to do, but the roof was uncovered and the heavy rain would have damaged a whole lot of the inside had they not gotten it covered properly.

Well if you release the people, they are going to come... I'm wondering if the bars and restaurants aren't following protocols?

That was exactly it. Too many patrons, staff, owners, not following the reopening protocols properly. And there is plenty of video to prove it.
Now, many that could have made it are gonna’ go belly up. The ones I feel sorry for are the ones that were following the rules that will now suffer from the stupid.

Ah, but what kind of cake did you have to suffer through on THEIR birthdays?? Lemon cake sounds interesting...is that like a pound cake or is it like a standard birthday cake? (sheetcake/round) If I want a cake now, I have to make it myself. Cakes here are so much different. They are not the light, fluffy cakes like we know. They are much more dense, and they almost always put some sort of fruit jam layer in between. I love fruit, but not in my chocolate cake. And buttercream frosting doesn't exist here. So I always end up making my own cakes from scratch...better that way anyway, and you get exactly what you want!

They were always just boxed cake mix and frosting from the grocery store.

I love chocolate... and I love lemon.... but when I was a teen I had to be "different"... so I went with Lemon. I don't remember anything odd for my brothers birthdays actually.

The Dixie Chicks are no longer. They are just tThe Chicks now.

I always called ‘em the “Ditzy Twits”.
Guess I’ll now just have to call ‘em the “Twits”...!!!!! :D:hilarious:
Saw that, peeked in, ran away screaming. It's gone farther off the rails:eek:

Wayyyyyyy late, but, shouldn’t that be “It’s gone farther off the flume”...!!!!! :hilarious:;)

Oh Dear. How sad. :( \

After setting three straight single-day records last week, Texas has hit another grim milestone in COVID-19 cases.

As of Tuesday, June 30, at 4:30 p.m., the state is reporting 6,975 new cases, bringing the total case count to 159,986.

Of that total count, 72,744 are considered active cases.

So disconcerting and unnerving.

Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, and Texas -- all spikes. This is going to be a long summer for many folks. The country will get through this though. If we pulled ourselves out of the worst of this in the Northeast, other areas will as well. I know your state of Illlinois is also working diligently to flatten the curve there.

The Latino men who put up my roof are some of the hardest working people I know. Covered head to toe with clothing so they don't burn up under the sun spent 2 1/2 days working on my roof from 9-5pm. They only took a break in their little van for about 30 min each day to eat their lunch. I asked if they wanted to use my bathroom they could. They politely declined. They either had strong bladders or my grass could have been lightly fertilized. 😒
