I used to see teachers do that a good bit actually, which is why I suggested it. We have a huge international population here. Korean, Hispanic, Indian, Arabic, you name it. A lot of teachers had brief notes to parents that they'd send home, apologizing that whatever they were sending was in English and just asking that the parents ask their child to translate and for them to respond, and then they'd ask the child to translate the parents' response. I thought that was good effort on the teachers' parts. English is not an easy language to learn.
Neither is Korean 😂

That's true. If I came to this land and tried to learn English, it's not easy. One subject that was a piece of cake to learn in school was Spanish. It helped me later in life when I immersed in the language traveling and having ex Latina girlfriends helped me communicate on the fly with their families. It also helps understanding Spanish when you know you're going to get ripped off but can talk back in their own language.
oops....I meant to quote someone else. Have a good day!

You are seemingly perfect in both english and spanish. Tell me more (if you want to) about how that came to pass.
I have many 5th grade students who I could give the same compliment to. These students speak only english in school from 9am to 3:30pm .....and they speak only spanish to their parents from 4pm until bedtime.

All I can do is just shake my head. Poor mom....she just doesn't get it.
Nope, she doesn't. And the thing is that she does like to read. She owns books and has some on display. But then she doesn't understand many of my reading habit, or the amount of time I spend reading, or that sometimes I just want my own copy of the book, especially with us being in lockdown right now.

The funny thing is, my dad, who hasn't picked up a book since he was in college, never says a word about my reading or buying books. Bought a Kindle? Not a word. Eight Outlander books? Still not a word. He'll sometimes be critical of other ways I spend my money, but not that.

Well, thank you, although I assure you my Spanish is far from perfect. I started taking it in middle school, took it through until AP Spanish in high school, got a 4 on the AP exam, and then I took two semesters in college. My grammar is really strong, though I do look things up before I post them. My written Spanish is also strong because again, I can look things up and double check if I need to. Speaking it can be rough because I'm the only one in my family who speaks Spanish. My dad has absolutely no gift with languages, my mom took French and forgot most of it, and my brother is on the autism spectrum and his primary difficulty is language processing.

We do have some Spanish speakers at work; I practice there. I practice at WDW. I was watching Spanish TV shows when I had Netflix; haven't found any that I like on Hulu, and then Duolingo is good for vocabulary building.

I just realized that T didn’t have a test in his folder, was due Friday. Teacher emailed it to me this morning. Luckily he wasn’t the only one who didn’t receive it in the folder.

Anyway..I just went to scan and turn in. Think he was rushing thru this?
🤣🤦‍♀️

I was married to a Spaniard, and my Spanish has become worse in the years since. My kid’s Spanish has suffered as a result, though it’s decent, just not where it should be.
I’ll the same for Hebrew, I used to be a lot better at it than I am now. Between the two, my Spanish is still much better than my Hebrew.

I took French for 6 years in school.. I can still read it well, but have more trouble in person.
It’s funny because I’m much better at Hebrew and Spanish than I am at the one language I studied for multiple years.lol

However, one of my all time favorite movies, Indochine, is in French.

Do you have the lisp? I do. My first teacher was from Spain, and I like watching TV from Spain over TV from Latin America (I think TV from Latin America is, in general, stupid) plus I took History of Spain in college, from a Spainard. The rest of my teachers were American, so guess which accent I picked up on?

I get asked when I speak Spanish where I learned it, and when I say I learned it here, it leads to many questions.
