To be far, most were quite civil and friendly. I probably didn't do the right thing, but when I got back from dropping off the van, they asked me to join into a small group of 2nd floor residents. At that point in time my apartment was a maze of bobbing and jumping to get from one end to the other, so I, hopefully, said sincerely that I would love too but I had way to much to do right now and I am, by nature, a procrastinator. If I stop now I will stay stopped. (at that time a couple hours of work to just be able to not sleep on the floor) That one lady was the exception. I'm sure when I turn on my world famous charm, I will win her over to the dark side.:)

Happy that your move went well. Take your time unpacking the boxes, etc. As long as you have a place to sleep and your coffee pot (or excuse me -- you drink tea, right?) -- have the tea and hot water handy. Those will be the two things you need to start with -- oh, and a roll of toilet paper!! :D

Sounds like the neighbors are a nice group. And yes, your charm will win over the only outlier in the group -- all in due course! :joyfull:

I suppose that over a longish life one learns many things. I have learned that I own way to much stuff. I didn't think I owned any more then I had when I moved from Vermont 9 years ago. Or it could be I was just 9 years younger back then. Even after giving away things that I collected all my life, like my Craftsman seven drawer tool box loaded with metric and american sized wrenches and sockets to my son in law, I still have to much stuff.

The move went smoothly but my new apartment looks like a bomb went off, but I suppose that all I need to do is find my way to the kitchen, the bathroom and the bedroom and have all our sequestered time to putter with finding a place for the rest of the stuff.

Everyone I met is very friendly, with the exception of one lady that started out OK, but then took a turn for uncomfortable when she reveled that the lady that previously occupied my apartment was her best friend. She had passed away a few weeks ago of renal failure. Her friend via body language and voice tone made it clear that she was not happy about me being the replacement. For the past couple of decades I have been pretty much a loner, but I'm starting to think that this place is going to pull me into someone that has to communicate with the general public. At least, after the era of social distancing has ended.

I did notice that a small grouping (at least 6 feet apart) had gathered at the atrium to take some sort of inventory of all my furniture and how many boxes I had, I guess. I'm glad I could provide some entertainment for the semi-isolated.
Did you get everything moved or will you still have to make some trips back and forth? Maybe the one woman will warm up to you over time. It's got to be hard having just lost her best friend, and of course with everything going on now, she may view all the people there to help you move as a threat to her health. Give her time. Does it bother you to interact or do you think you'll enjoy having people around to chat with? My dad was a real chatterer...he LOVED talking to anyone and everyone. He'd see an out of state car in a parking lot and he'd wait by that car until the owner came back and he'd strike up a conversation. When he was in the hospital after his strokes, he ran into some friends and really enjoyed "Solving all the world's problems, but no one would listen to their solutions." I never understood why he didn't want to move to a senior community where he'd have people to talk to. He was such a social person that it seemed odd that he wanted to live so isolated out there on the ranch 20 miles from the nearest town. But I can understand if it's not something you are comfortable with or used to, it may be difficult for you at first.

Well, unfortunately, DS was temporarily laid off yesterday.
DWifey’s office is closed again this coming week, but, she is still being paid.
Haven’t heard anything from my firm yet that we’re not supposed to show up for work tomorrow, but, that could change any minute.
We’ve been in all weekend, but, did get some burgers from the drive-thru at P. Terry’s yesterday.
Talked on the phone with my folks earlier and they are hunkered down and fine.
Everything has been removed from their house, including all the cabinets, but, all the granite kitchen countertops have been salvaged. So, things are still moving along.
Hope you and yours are all doin’ well, and I’ll try to ketchup later...!!! :)

My job might become available. My idiot of a boss wants us (contractors) to come in when everybody else who actually work for the company that I'm contracted to gets works for home. I want to tell him to shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

Even though were not considered essential. My only hope is a lockdown even though they don't seem to help. Because is anybody actually tracking people? Who gets sick and who doesn't any who in an invisible carrier. Until that happens, we might as well have no economy for months.

Small rant over.

I'm not understanding why he wants the contractors to come in, if the jobs can be done from home (at least through the virus situation). If you go in, is there 6 feet of separation between the other contractors and you (and them as well)?

The person that is probably most affected is your DS. I realize that his job is also a supportive, structured environment for him, and not just a job. Hope he'll be o.k. with this temporary transition to home, for each day of the week.

Yes thankfully because some contractors are working from home. It's just the people under 60 and have no kids that get to work :hilarious: Maybe, I should find a kid to rent.

He was takin’ it a little rough yesterday, but, he’s doin’ much better today. No clue as to when they will have him back. He was not the only one let go, there were several others. DWifey and youngest DD will be helpin’ him apply for unemployment tomorrow morning.
Youngest DDs school is closed, but, like DWifey, she too is still gettin’ paid.
SonIL will be workin’ from home starting Thursday. Mon.-Wed. he’s on PTO for a trip they were gonna’ take Seattle over the weekend and through Wednesday, that was obviously cancelled.
Governor had a press conference at 3p.
No shelter in place order yet, but, local authorities may do so as they see fit. 200 of our 254 counties still have no reported cases. He can still issue a statewide shelter in place order at any time. We’ll see how this all works out.
Thank you for your concern, Minnie...!!! :)

What do you do? Is your job considered to be in the essential sector?

My job is working in a warehouse for an online children's clothing store. Most retailers are closed, but since we are an online business, we are allowed to stay open. Well, I guess the retailers are, too, though most have closed voluntarily. But someone said that we are considered "production work", which is in the essential sector, so even if there's a lockdown, we'd still keep going. I wonder if that's true. I mean...we're not MAKING the clothing...we're basically a distribution center, and people are hardly going to die without new clothes. But we definitely don't always have 6 feet between us. Friday night I had to train 2 new people at the same time to walk orders, and that involves showing them how to use the scanners, which means we're standing next to each other looking at the same small screen and me pointing out buttons, etc. And last Tuesday, all the cleaning wipes were gone. Those scanners are like petri dishes...they change hands multiple times a day and you don't know who has sneezed on them, etc. I was glad I had just bought disinfectant wipes to keep in my purse!

EDIT - I can't seem to get the spoiler button to work, but the same applies. Don't click on the video if easily offended.

If anyone is getting stir crazy and is looking to take a little trip to a land far, far away, clear the children out of the room, pour yourself a stiff drink, and settle back to enjoy my kooky play Wonderland Wives, which is hidden in the spoiler content below because if it was a movie, it would be rated R for language and whacked out adult situations.

As my publisher describes it:
“Note: Wonderland Wives is intended for mature audiences with very immature tastes. Cinderella’s Prince Charming is serving ten years in the pen, Belle’s house is overrun with little monsters, Alice has been hitting the caterpillar’s pipe a little too hard lately, and Snow White’s husband has shacked up with the three little pigs. Now she’s keeping up appearances as the fairest in the land with the help of a little girdle and a lot of hair dye, and trying to keep Belle from draining the royal booze reserves and Cindy from inhaling the banquet table... “
In other words, don’t click if you are easily offended. Otherwise, enjoy! 😜

Glad the move went well and now you can get to screaming "get off my lawn";)

I don't get it either. A coworker from my old job is now a contractor for them (long story) but they're all working remotely, including contractors. Does not make sense.
