In today's working from home adventures...

I was in the middle of an IM conversation with a coworker when Belle decided to walk across my keyboard. She sent a message that was basically "?;;;;;;;;" To my coworker somehow. I put her off and then said to my coworker, "Sorry, that was my cat." Thankfully, it's a coworker I work pretty closely with and she thought it was funny.

I have a setup at home similar to my setup at work. I initially invested in it because I knew I would be periodically working from home, plus I thought that, God forbid I have a reoccurance of that thing I had last year, I'd need to work from home for an extended period of time. I would have never guessed I'd need it for this.

I have no idea how my co-workers without this setup are functioning. They're working on laptops basically unless they also have monitors and keyboards at home. Most do not I'm guessing.

oh my set up is very similar.... but I'm used to be able to working in person, rather than having to be on calls all day for meetings.

I'm sure you were great, but like you said, you aren't a mental health professional. I'm afraid teaching may not be a good profession for something with mental health issues like he seems to be dealing with. You can't just check out for days as a teacher. And you have to be a good role model for your students....that means showing them how to ask for and accept help when you need it. It also means being present and available to help your students, some of whom may be dealing with very difficult things that will make you sad and worried. But you have to be there for them and teach them coping skills themselves...difficult to do if you have none yourself. He's going to have to learn.

Well when the sun comes up tomorrow we will be effectively marooned on our little Island. No passenger ferries until April. No flights in or out excepting medical and returning islanders ( who have to self isolate for 14 days) .
Makes me stop and reflect for a bit.
There are worse places to be stuck in. I am here with my flamily who are all well and healthy. We both have secure (ish) jobs and plenty of TP.
Hope you all out there are safe and well. I also hope we come out the other side of this a better world.
Be nice to one another and help out those who need it the most.

I'm so upset for my best friend. Several years ago the company her husband works for (Large car rental company) sent them to Australia. The idea was to work there for a year, maybe two, and then they would move to London and he would be well-placed to become the CFO of the entire company. She didn't want to go...they had moved them all over the country so many times, she just wanted to settle. But she went, and ended up LOVING Oz. Then the company was taken over by someone else and they wanted to end international moves, so London was scrapped. They wanted to stay in Oz, so they were going to apply for permanent residency with the company sponsoring them to stay. It was agreed on, but they were waiting on the paperwork when the person who had made the arrangements left or was fired or something....so the deal fell through and they had to move back to the US. They were sent to Denver last...June I think? Or maybe July.

Now, 25% of their wage count was laid off today. He wasn't one of them, but now they told him they want him in Florida ASAP and if he doesn't go, he'll be gone in the next round of cuts. She had JUST gotten her daughter settled in school, she had a job, they had asked the company repeatedly before they moved if they were sure about this placement. She wanted to finally settle and stay put. They kept saying Denver was where they wanted him, it was permanent. Now they have to move or lose his job. Ugh, I hate that they are doing this!!

All of our projects have been delayed so far. Every time i ask if someone has a decision or a due out all i get is that they've been in meetings about covid and that's where they've been focused so they don't have anything for me. Which is fine, i guess. But i don't know how to proceed if they don't have anything for me
