Yeah. The one eatery near it (can't remember what it's called) is gone. The one near Star Tours (Backlog Express) remains and retains the original theme.Ugh! That was going to be my first guess, but I was thinking of the ride and that is gone.
<Jealous>Getting some snow! @MinnieM123 !!!
She is just practicing her ballet moves for her upcoming recital. Is it just me or does Emy look tall?
It's amazing how people are having winter this year. I feel like November was more winter than actual winter. Well in this years case, fall/spring.
Just the other day when the temp. spiked up for a day, (but still almost no snow at all around), I was thinking it felt more like late March, than early February.
Oh, P.S.: I'm on the second season (DVD set from library) of The Crown. Love it!! Is season 3 out on DVD yet? I don't see it anywhere.
It was released on Netflix last November. Season 4 releases this November.Just the other day when the temp. spiked up for a day, (but still almost no snow at all around), I was thinking it felt more like late March, than early February.

@donaldtoo Will your parents be able to put solar panels on the new home? A house in our neighborhood had a fire damage it about 3 years back. It was about 15 years old at the time so no asbestos issues. They had it rebuilt and got enough from the insurance where they could put solar panels.
I also hope the insurance is covering the rental for them so they don’t need to worry about the cost of it.
Seems like I remember an episode of This Old House recently where the rebuild of the house was on it's original footprint, but they wanted solar and the house was facing the wrong direction. What they did was build an external "shed", useful for other things but could be built to take advantage of solar panels, direction wise. It was incorporated in the design and ended up practically seamless. Looked a little like a detached garage or workshop.Solar panels have yet to enter the rebuild discussion. We definitely have enough sunlight throughout the year to support the solar power option. Moms first priority is to have the house rebuilt as close as is possible to how it was, and that is also our priority. It is her domain, and pop made sure it was so for all these years. They are still incredible together after almost 60 years of marriage...!!!!!
My siblings have given me a wide berth in regard to the rebirth of the design and rebuild of that precious home...since, well...it’s kinda’ what I do to pay the bills...!!!
Also, in that case, effective solar panels would only be able to be installed on the 2 gable roofs to the front of the house, facing mostly to the southwest, with the sun crossing those roof planes east to west as the sun rises, blazes during the day, and sets.
From what I know of even modern solar panels, most are conducive to only more modern architecture. Also, being that mom and pop are 80 and 87 years old, solar power is one of the last things on their minds, based on the time they keep saying they, statistically (and yes, I know) have left on Gods great earth...!!!!!
Plus, solar panels on those roofs would look atrocious, IMO...whoever owns the house in the future may have a different opinion (in that regard, my mother has said more than once that she wants our oldest DD to have the house when they are gone)...!!!
As far as the asbestos remediation goes, it was only in the mud used to float the sheetrock/drywall, and not in the popcorn ceiling, but, apparently, is still enough for raising it to the slab/foundation.
The asbestos remediation was estimated by the insurance adjuster to be about 50K, but, the head of the remediation team said it would be more like 27K. Hmmmmmmm...interesting **** there.
Anyway...
As always, I thank you and all here for your support and input, as it is always welcomed and appreciated...!!!!!![]()
Nope. I was busy finishing off beating my first video game of the year. Before than, Pumpkin bread and cherry chip cupcakes were made before XFL football started.Did anyone watch the XFL football on Fox today?
I look at it this way.... If it was built once it can be built again. That is the first half, the second is that closeness, security and love is not emanating from an inanimate object such as a building. Emotional security comes from within and is generated by the human element that fills the space. It is the family that makes a house a home. Familiar, yes that is important to nostalgia, but I have found that after the keepers of the establishments pass on, a whole lot of that magic is gone and what was once warm is now seems empty and just a little colder. Don't put to much concern on that part of it. If the group is there, it is still warm and inviting no matter how the front looks, that is superficial and only important if it is attractive and welcoming. As an architect it seems like you have that power to advise and give design advice. Seems like that would be a help to them.
I have one sister, she is still living in the last house that my parents owned. Even though it might be nice to see again the feel is so much different now even though it looks exactly the same as it did when I still lived there. My father never seemed to mind where he lived as long as it was warm, dry and solid. I, probably by example, feel the same way. My sister doesn't, she will die in that house because she is attached to the box with windows. To me it is now just the place where she lives and I once did, but, it was never the house to me it was the people in it. It took me way to many words to try to convey my thoughts on the matter which are just mine, I realize. You are fortunate to still have your parents around and everyone seems healthy and prosperous both in the emotional and physical sense. That is what makes that house a haven and refuge from craziness. As long as those key fillers are there the feeling will be the same.
I hope that they can find a way to isolate the damage and just rebuild the areas that were damaged. If that is possible that is wonderful. If not it can be built like it was visually and emotionally it will still feel the same. Sorry for the unsolicited thoughts on the matter. I truly hope it works out in a positive way for everyone.
Watching Houston and LA right now. DH wanted to check it out.Did anyone watch the XFL football on Fox today?
The players are working hard. There has been some good catches. It's just difficult for me to really care. No history. No connection to the teams.Watching Houston and LA right now. DH wanted to check it out.
