I just had some silly deja vu (only vaguely related to the above).

Don't know how this all got started, but one of my 2 brothers used to call any food item, that wasn't a name brand, "bo bo". It was his way of calling out my mother for (heaven forbid) saving a little money on buying generic, store brands. At about the age of 8, he really felt quite entitled, and he was insulted that she'd stoop to this level. :hilarious:

So we had "bo bo" cookies, soda, butter, cheese, bread, paper towels, etc. :p Anyway, my father made him stop using that term in front of my mother, but he'd still mumble it under his breath to us kids -- "I hate bo bo cookies!" :joyfull:

Myself and my younger bros didn’t care...generic meant to us that there was probably more food in the house, and that’s all that mattered...!!!!! :D:hilarious:

Watched New Hope, my favorite, last night. I am still partial to the original 3. Going to watch Rogue One tonight.

Yep, the original 3 are still, by far, my favorites as well...!!!!!
Also, I’ve posted this here before a few times, but, I’m not sure who might not have been here the last time I did... :cyclops:;)
I was watchin’ one of our local stations mornin’ news shows in early May of ‘77 before school. Just before the next commercial break they said they had Mark Hamill from a new movie called “Star Wars” up next, so stay tuned. He was here in Austin as part of a national publicity tour for the movie.
I had never heard of Mark Hamill or Star Wars at the time. They interviewed him for a coupla’ minutes and then played a clip. It was the classic “Don’t get cocky kid!” scene in the MF.
Definitely cool...saw it the week it came out, and we all know where it all went from there...!!!!!!! :joyfull:
And, BTW...
“Young Skywalker” is now 68 years old...!!!!! :eek:o_O:hilarious:

It should get in the low 40’s here today, so I am hoping all the ice melts. We were supposed to have rain overnight and not the freezing rain we got.

Crazy assed weather... :cautious: :bored:
We got up to 81 in our hood on the weekend, then it went down into the 40’s through Monday mornin’, and never got outta’ the 50’s. Our low overnight last night was 28, and it only got up to 54 today.
Our current weather below...!!!!! :hilarious:

Maybe it's a boy thing... one of my brothers is a total brand name snob, even at the age of 40.... for Thanksgiving, I was in charge of bringing the rolls, Hawaiian rolls, but they couldn't be the Aunt Millies... they had to be the name brand ones. EYEROLL. Whatev's! My other little brothers a chef, and I don't think he's as picky. The only thing I remember is as a teen he like doritos..... he would open a bag and eat some, but he would never finish a bag... and then he'd open a new one, even though there was still some in the first bag...... he told my mom he only liked Fresh ones... ... KIDS!

The interesting part is a whole lot of the so called "generic" food are made by the same high priced companies and store labeled at a cheaper price. It's called getting every area of the available market. The difference usually is that the profit margin on the non-generics is just higher. I've compared for years and have never found any difference in taste or quantity, at least in canned or bottled items.

Nope. Neither one of you hit on the highlight of those commercials, when they're disclosing the "possible side effects" -- they always list death. Yup, whatever they're selling, I'm running out right now to buy it?! :p
The one problem with that is that is what is driving the anti-vaccine group. There is a huge difference between the risk/reward when it comes to vaccines vs. medicines. There are usually many substitute options for many medicines that can be used instead of the specific item that is advertised, so the risk becomes higher. Since deaths have happened when connected to vaccines the same logic, or lack thereof, is applied. So they decide that it is unsafe to get those things when it is far, far, far more unsafe not too. The end result of not getting a polio vaccine, for example, is getting polio. The likely result for getting the vaccination is a long happy life. If the past few years around this country has proved nothing else we are not all that bright as a nation and even though we have centuries of knowledge right at our fingertips via the internet we are only looking for the answers we want and not a balanced, thoughtful process. As far as the products advertised on TV, just say no! If your doctor recommends something then just ask what experience they have had with the product, but listen to the answer. They are more equipped and educated to have a knowledge of any problems.

I learned the same as an adult. I like my money to go further. I have no qualms about buying generic. My kids don’t care either.
