The Chit Chat Chit Chat Thread

I was watching a Hallmark movie yesterday and it was supposed to be set in Minneapolis in December. Yet in the movie all the trees were still green and leafy and the grass that didn't have the fake snow on it was still very green. I laughed, I've lived in this area all my life and trees are never green and leafy in December. Oh well, I guess it makes the scenery look better for the movie, I guess bare trees with dirty slushy snow aren't good for movies.😃

Over the last few years or so, there have been at least 2 (maybe 3?) Hallmark movies set in Texas. Right away I was suspect, so googled to check on the actual filming locations...all in Canada...!!!!! :hilarious:
It’s kinda’ funny, Hallmark was founded in Kansas City, Mo., and it’s headquarters remains there to this day (the founder, J. C. Hall, was originally from Nebraska, and came to KC in 1910). But, at least in the recent past, it seems a lot of their filming has been done in Canada with a lot of Canadian actors/actresses...always wondered what was up with that...?! 🤔

I think I read or saw something once about Canada being a cheap place to film and it gave a lot of incentives tax wise too. I think the same holds with Georgia, a lot of stuff is filmed there now too because of tax breaks.

Kinda’ what I figured.
I know they’ve tried to/have done that here in Austin, and Texas in general, in the past.
“Spy Kids”, “Dazed and Confused”, “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”, “Office Space”, the remake of “True Grit”, and others, were all filmed here in Austin/the Austin area.

Worse yet, it sounds like a money laundering scheme...!!!!!:hilarious:
Its just a variation of the Nigerian scam. Still..
I mean.. getting these versions is very funny.
I've received the Bill Gates one that StarWarsgirl got, but also some hilariuos ones from Trump and the Virgin owner (Branson).

They are so easy to find as their sending email never match the "reply to". And use obvious stolen email addresses (either hacked, phished or where the servers have been hacked)

I wonder, has there been a secret santa kind of thing in this forum?

I mean, these are appearing EVERYWHERE.

Someone from the old site I used to be a member of set somethin’ like that up at least a coupla’ times.
All you had to do was sign up and share whatever info was required. I never participated, but, many did.
IIRC, most who participated had already known each other from the site and met previously at least once, or knew each other before they became site members.

Yep, and they wouldn’t keep doin’ it if it didn’t work for them, at least to enough of degree to make it worth their while.
Makes ya’ wonder who these people are out there that are still ignorant enough to fall for this stuff...?! :cyclops:

They do..
I still remember the sad news about 2 years ago of quite a bit of old frail, vulnerable and retired people, who were nonstop targeted by scammers from Jamaica and who end leaving the victims bankrupted.

Yea, I’ve heard many of those sad, sad stories, as well. And, I can see those kinda’ scams bein’ pulled off on older, frail people more often. But, they’re sendin’ this stuff out through cyberspace to much younger and more able-minded people.
Plus, I wonder what percentage of folks over the age of 65 own/regularly use a computer (although, I’m sure it’s many more than even just 10 years ago)...? I’m guessin’ the majority of those fraud cases were probably pulled off via phone or snail mail scam.

My parents don't get on often, but I have taught them .... Don't click on ANY ad, if you get any weird emails saying they are giving you money, they aren't... just click delete!
