The 60th Anniversary of Disneyland: The Reality of it All

So weird of them to just drop Hatbox Ghost into the mix about a month before. Why not hype up his return months in advance? At a big press event? Like the one they had?

Whatever. HBG is gonna be awesome. Eager to see him. :D

The marketing and communication for the 60th Anniversary has been a mix of weird and just plain bad. A few other words also come to mind when trying to describe TDA's 60th communication/marketing strategy; ham-handed, clueless, ridiculously vague, paranoid, and badly managed.

The overly corporate and almost pointless Parks Blog posts in the last 24 hours about Matterhorn, Peter Pan and the Hatbox Ghost sadly just fit the overall trend for the 60th lead-up marketing.

I only hope this bad marketing communication is just a product of clueless cubicle drones in TDA, the mindless propaganda bots who staff the Park Blog, and their more-clueless executive leaders who usually get nowhere near the actual operation of a working theme park. Let's hope the actual 60th products that the Entertainment group, Imagineering and the in-park front line Cast Members will deliver on beginning May 22nd is vastly superior to the marketing message TDA has been spitting up for the last year.

I'd be surprised if HMH was put on hiatus during the 60th. I would only expect the castle overlay and Christmas fireworks to take the year off.
That sounds good for ACF!

The sing along is added to May 22nd, I can't see MC being right here. Still no Magical Map, Soundsational and only one PTN. Nothing after midnight, but maybe that's an online thing? Any insight to this schedule and the regular 60th schedule GiveMeTheMusic?

More then anything I hope that none of the audio will be changed on the Matterhorn. The growls are perfect the way they are

Everything is so ridiculously vague regarding the updates to Matterhorn, Peter Pan and Mansion. Heck, even Soarin'. We basically have official announcements of what to expect, yet these announcements only raise questions. Is only the nursery scene on Pan significantly updated? Will there only be one new AA yeti on Matterhorn, or will there be three, since there are three yetis? Will Hatbox Ghost be on-model? Will Soarin' have a new ending? Can it just be next month already?

I think MiceChat's comment on Frozen Fun was poorly stated. The overlay on HBL, the BVS snowflake, and Frozen Fun in and of itself will close May 15. The sing-a-long and the meet-n-greet will live on. Freeze the Night closes Sunday, and Olaf's Snow Fest closes in May.

I was wondering when you'd show up.

And yes, the one at D23 didn't appeal to me, specifically his frame and face.
That's because his frame was seemingly from a Lincoln AA. It's very weird.

Seriously.

With the return of the Hat Box ghost, does this mean there are now 1000 ghost in the mansion? No more room for one more?

One effect that has apparently been broken for decades or was never installed was recently added to the DL Mansion and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't even know about this. The fruit on the ballroom table was meant to appear fresh when the ghosts appear using the same pepper's ghost illusion, then decayed when they vanish. No other version of the Mansion has this. I find that whenever I go through the ballroom these days, I look at everything except the table, so I didn't notice until I saw it mentioned online. It's such a charming little effect and I love that they actually did it.

Something like this makes me hopeful that other lost elements may someday return.

But it seems like everyone just wants them to put padding on the seats. Do they know this? That they didn't have to spend money on new AAs and effects? That they only had to put some pads on the seats for people's butts...?

I'm looking forward to the new Harold but this is my biggest hope for the rehab. Even an inch of padding would do wonders for this ride.

As it is now I can only do the Matterhorn once or twice a day before it becomes too painful to do again, maybe this is just their way of keeping the line a bit shorter.

There isn't 999 in there anyway

Thank you. There's at most 50 or 60 "ghosts" in the ride, either animatronic or projections.

All four Haunted Mansions worldwide could only come up with a few hundred ghosts, nothing close to the "999" that was simply a funny line in the dialogue of the ride audio.
