The 60th Anniversary of Disneyland: The Reality of it All

I finally saw the Frozen Sing-Along. I think I was expecting more. Brief appearances by the characters on stage. It was mostly some annoying original characters we've never heard of and literally just the song numbers from the movie itself on the screen. I'll say this for it. Everyone sang along. I liked the ending part, even though it was kinda corny (snow = smoke blowing out of the stage and soapy bubbles falling from the ceiling), but they at least put some effort into it. I wish the whole show had been more like that. It's charm but obvious temporary-ness kinda reminded me of The Lion King show they used to have at Magic Kingdom, but not done quite as well.

The good news is that it will not be around permanently. It'll be there for some time mind you, but it's not taking up permanent residence. Unlike WDW, where it will likely outlive us all.

I'd see it again, honestly. I just don't like that it's necessary to Fastpass it on our weekend visits. That's kind of unbelievable and yes, it's considered a legit Fastpass, meaning you can't also get a Fastpass for a ride at the same time. Yep, not gonna lie, I tried that. I've been told that the last show can usually accommodate stand-by, but it would seem all others are a crap shoot. For our show, Fastpass filled most of the theater, complete with guests stopping in the middle of the row, which I guess is acceptable now that Sam Eagle is gone. The theater is not at all suited for it, given that the extreme amount of little kids (and myself, frankly) can't see over the adults in front of them and need to be propped up by their parents.

Heard that PTN soft openings seem unlikely at this point based on their current schedule. Hopefully that turns out to be untrue.
Wasn't even considering soft openings, I'll be visiting the weekend before the start of festivities. Were they to do a 'soft opening' do you think it would be during the weekend or on a weekday prior? (I'm not getting my hopes up, I'll be there later this year for the new shows. I'm honestly pretty darn excited to see Fantasy in the Sky for the first time in years).

Checking the online calendar Soarin is off the refurb calendar May 15th. Pan and the Matterhorn are still on as of May 15th.
Matterhorn scheduled to be open on the 16th, Pan still closed through 17+?.

How crazy will it be on the 16th to ride the matterhorn? I'd imagine getting there before park opening is a must..

Soft openings are impossible to predict really. For example, if Disneyland Forever is ahead of schedule and show-ready, they may do some soft openings in the days before the 22nd. They also may not and may withhold everything until the media event. It's too early to tell.

Peter Pan is scheduled to still be closed on the 16th, but soft openings are not outside of the realm of possibility there either. For Matterhorn, even with it reopening it won't be the hottest ticket in the park. If it's a priority for you hit it early.

Read on MC this morning that Disney Auditions is looking for more

Male and Female Parade Dancers and

Male and Female Puppeteers

For a parade at DL Park.

Any thoughts?

MC noted that PTN"S auditions had "nighttime parade" in the description.

Pretty sure Disney is still referring to Paint the Night. If Disneyland were getting a new day parade (Soundsational will be just four years-old this year), I would believe Disney would have announced it with the other new entertainment offerings.

The author makes great points. Love that Disney is not laying anyone off. If the current musians either choose not to audition for the new matching band or don't make the new band they will be offered positions in othe park music groups. Sounds like Disney is modernizing the marching band. Will we be seeing formations down MS?
From what I can tell, it will be a similar set up to the All-American College Band, the old Future Corps at Epcot, and the 'regular' marching bands at TDL and HKDL. They will most likely march in a block (on drum cadence) to their performance location, and then do some formations and choreography there while they play, and then march offstage again.

I would be surprised if they were doing formations while moving from place to place, like the toy soldiers in the Christmas parades

Also, heard no AP previews for 60th shows. Also hopefully not true.
DL hasn't done AP previews for major entertainment since the ill-fated Light Magic. Given the obvious similarities between that event and the upcoming schedule, I would be surprised if they started up AP previews for entertainment offerings, since it's just not their SOP in recent years
If nothing happens before the 22nd, DLR may have it's busiest 24 Hr event yet! And correct me if I'm wrong but DL has only one shot at DL Forever that night because of neighborhoods surrounding it?
DL routinely has late-night fireworks for Grad Nights (~2-3am?), so I doubt that waking the neighbors will be a huge concern. They also do full-pyro dress rehearsals for Fantasmic! during overnight hours, and there are no issues with that

Theoretically, they could run into issues with the state if the show uses a ton of pyro, though that seems unlikely with the reliance on projections. Remember...Dreams Come True brought around the air-launch system to use less gunpowder, so the show could be run nightly through the 50th and fit within Disney's allotted air pollution credits. Depending how much fallout the show creates, and how close they are to their threshold, it could be an issue, but that seems unlikely after several months with the anemic Fantasy in the Sky

I know that WDW likes to keep parades around for decades, but 4-5 years is about the limit for most parades at DLR. Pixar Play Parade is older than that, but had a multi-year hiatus during DCA's construction. Celebrate! A Street Party, Parade of Dreams, Parade of the Stars, Eureka!, were all retired around/before their 5th birthday, and the parades before then rarely lasted more than a couple seasons (MSEP being the obvious exception)

That said, I wouldn't expect a new daytime parade at DLR before the end of the 60th. It's just too much work to be done that quickly, considering the total tack of rumors at this point

OK, this may or may not be related to the 60th,but, it sure looks interesting. Just checked DL's online calendar and starting the last week in April, a few nights a week DL closes at 7:30. Thoughts?
