Yeah, and it really should be to anyone that values the collective whole of EPCOT. A core part of Future World's visual identity has always been its unique architecture, buildings that make a statement before you even get within 50 feet of them. The canopy detracts from that heavily. The problem isn't that it's a canopy, it's that it was a cheap temporary structure that was never supposed to stay up passed 1997 and instead overstayed its welcome by over 25 years.

Could you imagine if they did something like that to Spaceship Earth? Put a big metal truss right up against it and leave it up for several years when it was supposed to only last for one? Wait...

Well first the OP that Ayla is responding started off his post by saying "Yeah, and it really should be to anyone that values the collective whole of EPCOT" so he was trying to make a comment about an objective perspective about what others should care about.

Second, we are talking about a mass market entertainment offering. There are tons of things that are subjectively important to an individual, none of them are actually that serious as to the operation of the largest park in the world. It's not a life and safety concern, its not something that shut down major offerings to all people for an extended period of time. Its not something that cost the company hundreds of millions of dollars the effected the company's ability to make new offerings. So yes objectively it really is not that serious.

By that logic none of the little things in WDW should be cared about. We’re on a WDW fan discussion board, the little things that comprise the “Disney Difference” is most of our bread and butter. Sure it doesn’t effect operations, but it’s a cheap thing that derives from the park experience. People threw the same fit over the Innoventions Plaza canopy they put up for the millennium, and that at least was purpose built and visually interesting. Clearly Disney is well aware of this as well, as they’re removing it to install an actual purpose built canopy. It wouldn’t be coming down if it weren’t an issue to more people than just me.

That's true. But I would say, at least for me, the attention to detail and theming is the largest differentiator between Disney and everyone else. It's a major factor as to why they became the largest. The details are something that most might never really notice. But I truly believe it's something that plays a big part in people forming that bond with the parks. It's a big part of the magic as they say, in my opinion.

The barriers in queues alone are so detailed at Disney, compared to other parks.

I dunno... adapt a significantly shortened "Racing Academy" (and the fantastic animatronic) as a preshow and make the attraction all about how "to be the best under all conditions requires careful design and implementation" (and that's exactly what GM does when designing a new car)... I think it could work...

I never said it shouldn't be talked about. I am saying there is nothing wrong with "devaluing" things that don't have an overal impact/value on operations.

I don't care about the canopy.

Because I never cared for the building's architecture and aesthetic.

Yes, I recognize that there was architectural intent in order to portray a theme. I see that.

I just don't think they did it well, or even pleasing to look at.

From across the lagoon, WoM looks like a tuna can without the paper label.

Round, shiny, and cylindrical. That's "motion"? Maybe part way there by being round.

But 'part way' doesn't make me love it. So, canopize away!!


But what do I know? I'm just a pixie dusting shill who defends everything Disney does.

So wait, your comparison is about something blocking the view of a ride building, and having zero effect on the actual ride itself, Vs. something blocking the view of the castle, the main purpose of which is to be viewed, have pictures taken in front of, and view projection mapped shows during fire works? You think there anywhere close to an equivalency there?

Which goes to the main point Alya and I have been making. Even opinions/thoughts need to have some context. I like a certain type of ketcup, and Disney doesn't offer that type in the park. It bothers me (likely more than it should) but i would never bring it up and complaint about it on a board because its unique to me, and such a minor thing, that its just not worth discussion. I am not saying people aren't free to discuss what they want, and of course i can always just scroll right by, but its still just nick picking about irrelevant things.
