This is a Coke stand?

Maybe they'll tie it in with Muppet Labs featuring Bunsen and Beaker? Surely this thing is more than just Coke products? Themed Churros? The IP would pair well with the concoct your own beverage, Freestyle™ system.

UPDATE: Wait a min... This is the Test Track thread!?

Two possibilities. Either that's what it was called previous (likely) or that's what it's to be and someone goofed by leaving it on there. I'm thinking it's the former. You don't construct a building for a coke kiosk, unless it's got that something extra. The whole project seems odd. I guess we'll know soon enough once the sign is installed.

Dang it! I did it again. Sorry Test Track threaderators.

I wouldn't be so sure. Theme park investments drive attendance and hotel bookings (and tens of millions in I'll revenue, if it is good). Theme parks are a more reliable way to get a return on Wall Street's investments. Heck, "Disney isn't investing enough in the parks" has been a major criticism of the board over the past year. So if movies keep doing poorly, I would expect a stronger emphasis on park and resort investments, as they generate more reliable returns.
That's what they need to do. The parks are doing very well & they need to build more to meet demand. The more they build, the more they can make... if what they build is good.

Lowering their film & TV output is a good idea anyway. Disney movies need to be events again.

They are in the mindset that they don’t have to invest in the parks. What is currently planned after the Tiana reskin in WDW? The answer is nothing. Blue sky garbage that won’t open for 10 years if ever doesn’t count.

i dont see too many more "event" movies coming out ever, seems like home theaters/streaming are taking over movie theaters in the US anyways. Its just soo much more convenient to watch a movie at home if you have a decent tv/speaker setup imo

yeah but they are rushing a live action remake of Steamboat Willy into production!...to be quickly followed by the live action remake of The Aristocats starring Charlize Theron... lol

I was thinking the exact same thing. Event type movies are few and far between. Completely subjective feeling, without any real data, but it seems like other than your major movies like Pandora, studios almost want to push movies into their streaming platform as soon as possible

They do & it's not feasible. Streaming services aren't making enough money to support major films immediately coming to them. There's also beginning to be a trend of people cutting off streaming services because of how many there are & how the movies/shows on them aren't safe even if they're owned by the same company (Looking at you, max & Peacock).

The future of media consumption is going to be very interesting. I have no idea which way it's leaning towards right now.

So.... How about that test track reimagining? It would be nice if they added to the pavilion during this refresh.. From the ill-fated "Project Gemini" plan, adding an Autopia would add another needed attraction, and an electric driving attraction aimed at kids would be great... It would be on-theme for the park, and a much needed new attraction....It would also allow them to either re-do or replace the Speedway in the Magic Kingdom...As they would still offer that type of attraction in the WDW Resort...

There won't be "event movies" created if the studios continue with their current model because it is not a sustainable business plan to invest the budget required when the revenue is from a streaming service. People are not willing to pay enough for a subscription for that to work. The streaming model is to churn out a lot of content so that you don't lose subscribers.

Under the old model there was significant revenue from the theatrical release, then the home video release (physical disc sales, PPV) and last they would eek out some additional profit by licensing the movie to cable and finally broadcast channels. The streaming model essentially skips to the cable licensing phase and eliminates everything else.

If movies are to continue to exist on the scale that made a movie a movie the studios will have to create a separate content category just for movies and go back to a model that focuses on a pay per view revenue stream at a much higher rate than is possible from a streaming subscription model. It will likely have to include a renewed focus on a reasonably long (90+) theatrical window in order to create some kind of aura of exclusivity to allow the streaming PPV phase to charge a high enough fee.

I think Disney+ ad free is $140 per year. That will be shared by a family for thousands of hours of content. Disney, at lets say $13 per ticket and a 60-40 studio revenue split, will receive $31 for a family of 4 to see ONE movie ONE time in a theatre. You can't produce 10 movies a year on a high budget and throw them into the streaming platform. The ROI just isn't there.

The entire goal of a streaming service is to have enough content to keep people from cancelling. I keep being on the brink of cancelling Netflix because there isn't enough high quality content available. Just to find something to watch in the background while exercising is difficult sometimes.

I think it would be great if they added to the pavilion during the reimagining! It would also be nice if they added a more traditional post show. Other than looking at the cars in the showroom, I usually just walk straight through the post show area.
