I was just wondering if anyone, anyone at all is nervous about going to WDW in the summer in light of the recent terror warnings in America. I have been going to WDW for 21 straight years and have never been this nervous to go there. I leave on July 6th and I don't know if I should cancel my trip or not. PLEASE someone give me some help.

Thanks guys!

Well this is a very scary subject. I mean, its wide open and there are tons of people. I don't want to let it ruin my time either but I just wonder exactly what Disney is doing to ensure the safety of their guests. I don't want to cancel my trip. Plus, I'm leaving in the very middle of the summer right around July 4th.

I wouldn't let it ruin your vacation. Just go and have. Disney World is there to get away from the real world. Go and relax, there is plenty of security and the no fly zone. So go and have fun.:)

gosh, our stupid government releases terror warnings every couple months, and it would be stupid of us to let those warnings affect our lives. There is nothing you or I can do about it, other than keeping our eyes open in the airport, so you should live it up at Disney World. I'm not about to let Donald Rumsfeld or W. keep me from having fun because they want me to feel they are doing something during an election year. Terrorist attacks are always and have always been possible. Enjoy yourself at Disney. You are more likely to get injured or die falling out of your bed than due to a terrorist attack.

I went to WDW three weeks after Sept. 11th. My Fiancé and I were nervous about going and we even talked about canceling our trip because of everything that happened.

It finally came down to: Are we going to let Terrorists make us hide in fear and change our plans, NO! - I am going to go on vacation and try to have fun while keeping our eyes open to anything suspicious. It's actually safer to go during these times because everyone is on alert and looking out for each other.

Disney has implemented a no fly zone around the entire WDW area. Also, WDW has installed high-security, anti-terrorist barricades similar to those protecting the White House, U.S. embassies and nuclear-waste depots. The hydraulically powered, steel barricades block the service entrances of the giant resort's four theme parks and were apparently designed to stop a 20,000-pound truck traveling 70 mph.

We are going again in two weeks and again will keep an eye open to suspicious activity.

Have a Magical Day!

I'm going in September, and I'm not worried at all.

I refuse to live my life in fear of what terrorists may or may not do. That's exactly what they want. Life's too short for that.

Go and have fun. As someone else said, Disney World has some of the tighest security in the entire world. You've got more eyes on you at any given time than a quarterback during the Superbowl.

Ok, I understand the No Fly Zone and the barracades. But whose to say that can stop someone from walking into the park with a dirty bomb or something and killing or terrorizing thousands of people? I'm just a little nervous, how can Disney stop some of these things? Its hard to stop everything. Sorry if I'm freaking anyone out.

Disney has never been able to stop that completely nor will they ever be able to stop that. It could happen anywhere--the mall, local amusement park, your neighborhood. It has always been a possibility and now they are just trying to scare us by bringing that up. If someone really wants to do something, they will do it, and we would be doing ourselves a disservice by letting that miniscule possibility affect us. Go ride the Tower of Terror.

At the entrance to each park is security and they check each bag before you enter the park. I heard on these boards they are also using a metal detector wand also.

Don't be afraid, I agree with the earlier post. You have more eyes on you just like at a casino.

There are no metal detectors yet.

They check everyone's bags at the front gates.

Seriously, it's not going to terrorits any good to do something like that.

9/11 was a catastrophic event. It was planned out years in advance, and was done specifically to kill loads of people.

It would be pointless for someone to walk into an amusement park with a bomb, when they might not even get to set it off, would certainly get caught, and in all likelihood, not kill as many people as these wackos set out to.

I think the only person you're freaking out is yourself.

And you know what, you're right. Someone could walk into the park with a dirty bomb. It is technically possible.

If this is something that you feel so adamently upset and worried about, then maybe it is best you don't go. It would be a shame to spend all that money on a vacation and not be able to enjoy any of it because you're worried about being the victim of a terrorist atack at any given moment.

I, for one, would go anyway. Because if I'm gonna die, I wanna spend my last minutes having a blast at WDW!

The terrorism threat is real, no matter what you think of our current elected and appointed governmental officials, or where we are in our nation's four-year political cycle. Do we get too many warnings, or not enough? Who knows? In my mind, you can live your life being angry and cynical, or you can live your life assuming that most people are doing the best job they can, and then act accordingly based on the facts at hand.

That said, I prefer to look for hidden mickeys rather than hidden agendas. My wife and I left our kids at home and flew to California two months after 9/11 and enjoyed ourselves at a wedding, Disneyland and DCA. Not that we didn't feel some heightened tension - the back-up at LAX when going home after the crash of a plane in NY ensured that. But we went on with life.

We're going to WDW next month, and while we'll be more aware and watchful, we're also not going to let terror, the threat of attacks, political agendas or just plain ugly hatred deter us from enjoying our time with family and friends. To do otherwise would be to surrender that which our armed forces are fighting for.

You take risks everyday of your life. Driving in any metropolitan area is far riskier than walking around WDW. We're not changing our plans to visit (71 days and counting!), nor will we worry about being in the exact wrong place at precisely the wrong time. :)

Exactly.

Hell, if you gotta go, might as well go at the happiest place in the world.

No, seriously, I agree with the previos poster. If you're this freaked out, don't go. You won't enjoy yourself.

This is kind of a sick point to make, but look at it this way - Disney World is a MONSTOROUSLY large place. What are the chances that you will be exactly where a bomber would be at that exact moment?

Given the size of the place, the amount of time you're there, hours in a day, it's got to be in the millions to one range.

The simple fact is, there are no guarantees. I'm taking the family down in December and I have thought about it myself. But I figure if I'm going to fall victim to an attack, it's going to happen no matter where I am. I cannot sacrafice one single minute of my own short life worrying about it.

Life is too short to spend your time worrying. Be alert. If something doesn't seem right, get away. Otherwise, there is enough in the world these days to bring you down. We all need an escape and thats why we go to WDW. Heck if that's how I'm going out, let it be with my family and at the greatest, happiest, bestest place in the whole world.

99% of terrorism is the installation of fear in a manner in which your everyday life is changed. That 1% is the actual physical action that gives visualization to terror. We as a nation are much better aware since 9/11. To me, this means it will be that much more difficult to carry out an action. We're not yet and will never be fully immune but so long as they can strike fear in our Red, White and Blue souls, they will continue. So, give extra hugs to those who aren't going with you. Feed the cats some good quality tuna before you go. Leave no beds unmade and no dishes in the sink. Go have a great time and for goodness sake, don't lie down and let them get into your head. This is still America so live like an American !! Have a blast. I'm jealous your going so soon and I have to wait till December...:D

I also went to WDW 2 weeks after 9/11 and being from New York, was worried, but agree with the statement above, if you live in fear, the terrorists win.

I'm leaving in 6 days with my 4 year old and plan on going back in October with my wife and 9 month old too.

If you live you life in fear, you're not living your life.

Go to Disney World, have fun and forget about the threats. Live YOUR life!!:D

6 days to WDW :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:
