Teppan Edo or 50's Prime Time?

Hello Disney friends. I need your help!

My boyfriend and I leave for the world in 9 days and I have made my ADRs. Recently I've been having second thoughts on my ADR for 50's Prime Time.

Here are my other ADRs:
Kona Cafe
Coral Reef
Grand Floridian Cafe
Chefs de France
Tutto Italia
Le Cellier


Let me explain...Fantasmic! is my favorite nighttime show and its only showing on Tuesday the 25th and Wednesday the 26th. We want to finish up any DHS we want to do whatever night we see Fantasmic. Tuesday works best, so naturally thats when I made the 50's PT ADR (we ate at mama melrose last year and want something new [well for him anyway])
Teppan Edo would be our next choice for an ADR if we had another day...here are the pros and cons for each

Teppan Edo Pros
-love Japanese hibachi type food
-restaurant is new to both of us

Teppan Edo Cons
-have hibachi places at home
-not a huge fan of sitting with another family (always feel like outcast)
-will have to travel from MK (where we will be in the am) to EPCOT to eat then to DHS for Fantasmic
-Less time at DHS to finish up anything we missed in the previous day
-Already have many EPCOT heavy dinners

50's PT Pros
-Dad's brownie sundae
-Comfort foods are yummy
-already in DHS so that cuts down on time

50's PT Cons
-Don't think the boyfriend would enjoy the atmosphere of the family nagging to finish dessert, elbows off table, etc...
-I've eaten there before, could try something new
-can eat comfort food at home


I have an ADR at 4:30 for 50's PT and 3:30 for Teppan Edo. Which one should I cancel? Thanks so much!

I would probably take Teppan Edo over 50's PT, just for that shrimp sauce at TE.

Well, they are two totally different tastes, that's for sure. :ROFLOL: I personally love Teppan and would probably go there. But, if convenience is what you are looking for then 50's would be a better bet. I have friends that love Prime Time and never miss it. I have only been there once and found it to be fine. Not great, but not horrible either.

Prime Time would be easier, but I hated it and I talked to a friend who has also been there and she hated it, too. Food was not that great.

Cut convenience out of the equation now...we figure with a 3:30 ADR we can make it to DHS by 6. Giving us time to hit up one or two non big time (FP) rides at DHS like great movie ride, voyage of little mermaid, etc...before time to get in line for Fantasmic!

So which place has the better food? I don't care about atmosphere, price (on DDP) or whatever. STRICTLY ON FOOD TASTE AND QUALITY.

I would say DEFINITELY 50's Prime Time Cafe. I adore that place first off, fantastic food and os much fun. Plus like you said it's a lot more convenient to enjoy Hollywood Studios. Also I'm sure your boyfriend will get into it and enjoy it once he's there, but if he doesn't the servers usually respond to how the guests are acting. If you aren't playing along with the "act" then they won't really bother you with it. They really only play it up big if you're just as into it and/or for kids as well. Just my opinions though, have a great trip!!

For us, we dont like the interactive "rude" waitress/ waiter thing. We just want to sit down and eat enjoyable food. so its tepan for us. Its like you say, typical hibachi style, but done very well. 50's, blah food that ican get from any diner intown.

Teppan Edo is great. I did see that your not into sitting with other families at the hibacchi grill so you might want to consider the 50 prime time. Now I seen you might feel that your boy friend may not like the act there as well. Then let me please suggest going to an erly dinner at Bomas or the flying fish at the boardwalk, and then go and see Fantasmic. I say this because of the pro and cons you listed for both places you might just go and do a new place that is is good and perhaps you never had tried. This way you don't have to worry about the waiters and waitresses at the prime time and don't have to feel like an out cast at the Hibachi at Teppan Edo.

I have not been to 50's, but had friends that disliked the atmosphere. When they told me about it, it sounded like something I wouldn't be into. Teppan Edo on the other hand I love - it's a big hit with my family. I can say that the food there is fantastic, although I can't compare food quality for you to 50's.

50's is one of the worst restaurants on property. Teppean Edo. Thought if you are looking for a new place in the studios maybe try Hollywood Derby? :shrug:

WOW...I'm just so shocked and so many people disliking 50's Prime Time. yes, the atmosphere is not for everyone, but if you don't want to play along the servers tend to pick up on that and not push you to do it. All of that aside though and talking about the food only I think they have fantastic amazing food...SO yummy!!

I, personally, LOVE 50's Primetime. I have always had tasty meals there. It is a very special and unique dining experience. Nothing special about Teppan Edo - just another hibachi place. That's my 2 cents! Happy planning!

Personally - I can't stand 50's PT Cafe. Comfort food yes, but I think you can get that at home with some Stoffers. I often struggle with dining at DHS b/c I like Pizza Planet and Brown Derby and that is about it. I have not tried Mama's, i've heard mixed reviews - but I also don't like Sci Fi. So I often struggle with wanting to stay DHS for a meal - but not knowing where to eat. We have not tried Teppan Edo yet but we will this next trip in Sept. We have heard good things and my DH is really excited to give it a try. :wave:
