I live 10 hours from DW and would like to drive down on a friday, spend saturday at MK for my birthday, and head home Sunday. I want to suprise my wife and daughter at the last minute for this trip. I can't really go on a "vacation" because of grad school, but I can make it down for a weekend......what do you think? Has anyone else done anything like this?

Not crazy at all! I just had a good friend pass away at 42, and it's made me think about doing all I can with my friends and family while I can. If you can afford it, and have the time, make the most of it!!!

I've often thought of flying down just for a weekend. Go for it and enjoy it. Imagine how surprised your family is going to be!

sorry to hear about your friend. That is way too young.

10 hours isn't too bad as long as you guys don't mind car rides. You won't feel as rushed since you will be driving on different days than when you visit the park.

I forgot to mention that my father lives in Ocala, FL (1 hour north of DW) so we can stay there for free plus we are fairly use to driving that distance. And hey, its my birthday so one less ticket I must buy. Besides gas, food, and 1 adult and 1 child ticket, the trip is free! lol

I live in Louisiana, so it's about the same amount of distance. I think you're crazy, but that's just me. Who am I to say that you shouldn't go? If you want to go, you should go. It would kill me to drive that whole way to only get to enjoy it for 1 day.

PS. I'm one of those people that start missing Disney with 2 days left, so I'm probably not the best source.

If you are crazy I am insane. I will be driving 12 hours to get there on the 25th of this month. I am planning on hitting Seaworld for the last two hours they are open that night. I will be hitting the Magic Kingdom on the 26th, which is my birthday, from around opening until 1am. I will then go to Universal Studios for the first 3 hours they are open on the 27th before driving 12 hours back and getting home around midnight. I will then be going to work the very next day and I live an hour from where I work. I will be tired from everything, but I will not mind it.

Absolutely go!!! We're 15 hours away and have 'considered' doing something like that but on a 3 day weekend. Not gotten up the courage yet...:)

I hate driving long distances, no patience. But I still say go for it.WDW is probably the only thing that would entice me enough for a long road trip.

You guys are so lucky that you can even consider this. I'm 9 hours away on a plane with a big river thing in the way! :lookaroun:lol:

I wonder when they'll build a road over the Atlantic?
