Team Prospero Brainstorming Thread - Project Eight: New Islands, New Adventures

So, reading over some of the ideas mentioned:

  • While DC Comics may pretty much just be used by Six Flags, they really would benefit from the resources that Universal could provide. So, I'd be all up for that as one of the replacement islands.
  • I'm also all for a video game-inspired idea. For instance, Nintendo really does have so many properties to pull from. While there are Super Nintendo World sections turning up at other Universal parks and Epic Universe, those really look like they're focusing on Mario basically. We could easily pull from other franchises to focus on, with my top choices there probably being The Legend of Zelda or Animal Crossing. With Zelda, we could design it as a general Hyrule that showcases influences from throughout the series. As for Animal Crossing, I definitely would picture that as the kid-friendly area of the park. While the idea of rides would seem a little tough to imagine for such a low-key game, I'd see it as more of a rest area. For example, perhaps a boat ride that takes you through a riverside village. Plus, the New Horizons game actually features a spinning tea-cups ride.
  • Of course, if we wanted to do a video game-related island that's not Nintendo-related, I would mention Capcom. I noticed the Street Fighter mention, and it occurred to me we could design a Capcom island with Street Fighter as something of a "theme anchor", thanks to two other Capcom games that are confirmed to share the same universe as Street Fighter: Final Fight and Strider.
We could use Captain Commando to transition from the 90's urban city of Final Fight to the futuristic Strider as both Captain Commando and Final Fight take place in the same city, Metro City (just in different time periods),.

How could I forget Captain Commando?!

See, that's four games/game franchises all tied together through the united thread of Street Fighter.

Speaking of, I wanted to try and sum up what I was thinking on the board games... so first off, I think it’s a really original idea that can appeal particularly to kids. It’s also extremely budget friendly, allowing us to go further in depth on the other two lands. This is sorta my “land overview” based on what I can come up with, but I’m sure there’s better ideas out there.
Jenga drop ride

Battleship aquatopia ride with shooting balls/water

Operation Show with audience participation

Sorry bumper cars

Hungry Hungry Hippos tea cups style, which hippos pulling guests off the “normal” track

Something related to Candy Land

Game of Life interactive ride through?

Clue Murder Mystery dinner party

Monopoly?

Love monopoly, but it’s not as kid friendly in my opinion... the only non-kid friendly thing I think we could include is the murder mystery because that’s geared for a completely different demographic to keep them interested in the land too
Also Life is relatively linear as opposed to monopoly, making it easier to adapt into a ride

Updated the post! I'm assuming you meant "Crash Bandicoot" under the video games section?
Correct.
Maybe use monopoly for a shop?
We could also have it be one of the nicer restaurant (theme it to Broadway or Park Place).

Also I think it'd be cute for either the shop or restaurant to be housed in a pure red or green building to mimic the one color plastic pieces of the original game.

Maybe each ride vehicle has a touch screen and at each scene you have to make a life choice and at the end of the ride, it shows you your life. Kinda like Spaceship Earth
I love that idea as long as it’s not interfering with the Batman attraction!

That’d be so fun!!
How about a Wild Mouse attraction for Mouse Trap?
Ooh that’s a great idea! I’d rather have that then either the Hippos or Sorry!
Have the pathway be the candyland path
Great idea!!

Unrelated to board games... but is it realistic that there would be a Nintendo land a Capcom land in the same resort? I’m unfamiliar with their interactions so I don’t know for sure

Capcom has made games for Nintendo consoles before, but they're mostly unassociated with each other beyond the occasional exclusivity deal. The IPs that we've discussed so far (Street Fighter, Final Fight and Strider) are all targeted at a teen and young adult audience instead of Mario and DK's more family friendly image. If we did Capcom, it'd probably replace Bond in our plans.

Also USJ has already done collaborations with Capcom in the past (such as Biohazard The Real and Monster Hunter the Real), so it doesn't seem too far off for them to collaborate for the US Parks.
