Team Danny DeVito From Dumbo - "The Forward Thinking Finale" Brainstorming

Going back to a more tradition theme park expansion style, instead of having multiple unrelated IP lands I think there should be some underlying core theme (one that fits with the park that its attached to) for both to give them a reason why they're isolated from the rest of the park. Basically mini "side stories" parks.

Think Disneyland's West side with Frontierland, NOS, and Critter Country all feeling like they're part of the same American Riverfront.

For Disneyland side, first thought that comes to mind is have everything be linked through American folktales and legends. I think it'd be a great link between the America of the past West side of Disneyland while allowing for plenty of variety in settings (and Disney IPs). For example a Ghost story area (IPs Nightmare Before Christmas? Legend of Sleepy Hollow?), one themed to Pirate folktales (obvious POTC movie tie ins), or one dedicated to American folk heroes (Paul Bunyan? John Henry? Pecos Bill?) I'd hope for a mix of IP and non-IP, but if want to go with all IPs as I outlined above there's still plenty to tie into this.

I have zero cohesive ideas for DCA side other than "More MCU" or "More Pixar" right now.

Gearing DL's expansion to Haunted Mansion would be an interesting idea, especially with Splash becoming PatF that whole area is becoming NOS themed, so something close to that but maybe not exactly that would be a good transistion!

I have no ideas for DCA either. I don't care for that park at all (except Cars Land) so thinking up something new there is a bit difficult.

It shouldn't be difficult though, the entire park is essentially an IP mashup with the barebones remnants of OG DCA (essentially what they're trying to do with EPCOT). We could literally pick any IP and find a way to fit it in.

DCA is still technically themed to California, but it’s so overrun with IPs there’s seemingly little cohesion. For instance, the Avengers Campus, Cars Land, and Pixar Pier areas all call to mind Silicon Valley, Mojave Desert, and Santa Monica respectively.

For this reason, I’d advise against throwing any random IP into DCA. We can make IPs work while sticking to the park’s established theme.

TBH, I think Disneyland is the park that’s “less cohesive” in its design. As long as it ties to the general phrase of “Yesterday, Fantasy, Tomorrow” it’s good. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course. Just something to keep in mind.

Btw, this really isn’t relevant to the project but for the past couple months I’ve been planning a third gate concept at DLR with both these plots instead delegated to a single, awkwardly shaped park. There really is a lot of space to make things happen. Tbh I feel like this makes more sense then two very confusingly oriented park expansions, but given Disney is planning this approach we’re pretty much stuck with that for our brainstorming here.

Ok, we've produced some really good ideas so far, but I'm worried about how quiet the chat is right now. I know everyone's busy (I am too), but it's our second day into this project, and I want as much time as possible for writing this up.

I'll be gone on an unexpected trip from Thursday to Saturday, so I really would like a final idea solidified today. The project is due next Tuesday, so that leaves me time to do a writing role of some kind without looking like I ditched you guys.

Sorry, Mick. I'm busy right now, I'll post some ideas and suggestions once I get home.

So to recap our ideas so far:

Option 1: Traditional Styled Expansions
  1. Disneyland
- American Folktales/Storytelling Overarching Theme
-Possible areas includes a Ghosts/Spooky area, American Folkheroes, and Pirates

2. Disney California Adventure
-No ideas for a cohesive sub theme for the expansion yet
-Could include a Mexico area with a Coco E Ticket or more Marvel(?)

Option 2: Zoo Mini Parks
1. Disneyland
-Themed to Wakanda

2. Disney California Adventure
-Themed to the Marine Life Institute

For California Adventure, maybe we could the expansion be centered around Californian immigration? I guess Mexico could kind of fit into that kinda, Chinatown would be cool (easy Mulan IP tie in!), and something for Europe (idk).

That's a cool idea! We could divide the land into three areas and have one main attraction for each (nothing too big because of size constraints)

The question is though, would the connection to immigration be obvious or subtle? I'm thinking the latter but thought I'd ask anyway!

I’ll vote for the mythical folktale idea in Disneyland Park. For DCA, I still think the Marine Life Institute would be a perfect IP to fit into the California theme. If not Marine Life Institute, Coco is a solid choice.

Let’s get this decided by tonight.

We could use the bridge tunnel to showcase great Californians who were migrants from other countries? Might not be the best for the crowd flow though. We could also have some type of central icon with an edutainment walkthrough/show, I just have no idea what it'd be especially since California has no great iconic building/monument immigration like if it was a general US themed park with the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island. Probably would have to be original.

Otherwise I'd say make it subtle.

Are you thinking that the Marine Life Institute would take up the whole DCA pad because of the aquarium aspects? Because not knowing anything about what size the behind the scenes areas of an aquarium would need to be I think we could fit both that and a Coco land in there and have both be around the size of Cars Land.

Tbh I think the aquarium would work but I understand the legal and technical implications of using marine life in the park. We can keep things simple by having very small exhibits - like fish, as well as a focus on entertainment alongside the attractions. Like the seas pavilion at EPCOT.

tldr not fully aquarium, but theme park land with aquarium features.

Guys, I had it. I know what to do for DCA. Whether under the bridge to travel back in time too…

That could work. Smaller tank exhibits would be more realistic than having cheetahs or other dangerous animals.
