News Talking Mickey to leave Magic Kingdom

This will never happen, of course, because it would cost money, but a good replacement for Talking Mickey might be a Living Character Initiative-type Mickey, a Mickey Mouse figure with a voice adapter that a controller backstage could make talk in real time while interacting with guests. Imagine a Mickey Mouse greeter that actually looks like the Mickey we see in cartoons. Kind of like the Mr. Potatohead at the Pixar, but not as big. I think it'd be awesome, and I wouldn't mind getting my picture taken with one, as opposed to some guy/girl in a suit.

Talking Mickey was one of the highlights of my sons birthday as well. We went to Chef Mickeys for brunch where he was given a birthday cake and danced/celebrated with the characters including Mickey (he was wondering why they couldnt sing happy birthday but I explained they have to rest their voices for when they have to sing/talk during their shows etc)...and then we headed into MK after. We had reservations at Cinderella's Royal Table for dinner during the fireworks so we went to meet Mickey in Town Square right before our reservations and we told him we had a surprise for him. Not only were the cast members awesome and walked him up to the front of the line...but he was so shocked when Mickey started talking and singing happy birthday to him. He felt so special and literally talked about it for months after. It was one of the most magical things that happened that trip. It really is such an awesome experience and I hope it doesnt go anywhere anytime soon.

This has all but ruined our upcoming vacation in 3 weeks. Talking Mickey was the highlight for ME personally. Since the inception of Mickey talking, our family had to sometimes make exceptions to plans each year for me to see that particular character or my vacation was not complete. I am extremely disappointed.

Voice your concern to Disney directly so they know. Doing it here won’t help.

I understand your upset, but we can survive meeting Mickey when he's not talking. Same with the other meetable characters that aren't face characters for almost 50 years at WDW.

'All but ruined' seems a little over the top. If my favourite ride/experience wasn't open or had been closed before a visit, sure I'd be disappointed but it wouldn't ruin the trip.

This sucks. Since my son has met talking Mickey a few times now he'll what the issue is at that location. Not wasting a FP on it anymore, and will just do character dining or the DAK meet if we want to see Mickey. I was always impressed by how well it worked with those preset phrases and how quickly they reacted up to this point. It's a bummer but leaves us another FP to use on a Magic Kingdom day

Wait times have plummeted now. Current wait time is 10 mins. That was unheard of in the past and I would expect all that lost traffic to pile up elsewhere.

Interesting. Wonder if word has traveled that quick or if it’s just a coincidence. It’s not like it’s on the sign out front.

I'd have to imagine that throughput is probably much higher now which would at least somewhat contribute to the lower wait times. I mean, previously, the whole Mickey doing his magic trick thing would take a few minutes, then pictures, then goodbyes... and that would happen with just about every guest... now, I'd imagine most guests go in, say hi, get a hug, get pictures, and are in and out in only about a minute or two. Only the very "talkative" guests who are "good" at interacting with the non-speaking characters (i.e. not me) would spend anywhere close to the amount of time Mickey spent per guest when he was talking...
