No prob. I hope you're doing okay now! Best of luck and don't feel too much pressure from missing out, as you're doing the best you can at the moment. I know that just getting back from a break can be feel very stressful as you feel like you have to compensate for everything you have just missed out on. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Good morning team! So I think today’s goal should be to solidify our theme and to begin brainstorming some ideas. I know we started to vote yesterday but it was kinda halted because I wanted to hear from Star Trek.

Now that there’s kind of an idea for Star Trek, let’s officially vote on it.

I’ll place my vote for LotR

Then I’ll cast my vote for Star Trek

Sorry about not responding sooner.

Well, part of the reason why I vote for Star Trek is to diversify some of the world selection of Epic Universe. There is already going to be a strong showing of fantasy content in the park already, with How to Train Your Dragon and Nintendo (to a degree) running with these styles. Star Trek would add some science fiction to the park, carving out a distinct look of its own.

Also, some might wonder if this would just feel like a copy of Star Wars over at DHS? Personally, I say no. Whereas Galaxy's Edge is a worn-down home of smugglers and threatened with the presence of the First Order, I envision a Star Trek section as being a sleek city of the future that is home to a Starfleet Command base. This is a place where you can see the wonder of interplanetary cooperation, where sights and wonders from across the planets can come together in a united mission.

I'm not sure of all the ride ideas I'd have right off the bat, but one thing that could be interesting is the Kobayashi Maru. Probably one of the most famous tests in Starfleet Academy, prospective recruits (like visitors to the park) can take their chance and see how they handle themselves in a thrilling test of character.

While we vote, we should decide for Star Trek if we want the old-timey optimistic style, or the new gritty action style. I would go for old school. I haven't actually seen Discovery or Picard, but I've seen clips and it all looks very depressing. I would prefer we go with TOS or TNG era.

The one issue that does present, though, is that beyond the Kobayashi Maru, there wouldn't be many attractions to draw from. Old Star Trek isn't the type to have big action sequences to translate into rides, it was more thought-provoking and nuanced. Which doesn't translate the best into an "Epic" landscape.

That’s my biggest issue with Star Trek. Neither TOS or TNG really lend themselves to attractions. Other than a “pilot the Enterprise” attraction akin to Smuggler’s Run, I cant really think of much either way for. I’m in the same boat as we were for Blade Runner where it just doesn’t lend itself to attractions. I’d love to hear from those voting Star Trek what attractions we could have, because remember, it’s about the judge’s criteria.

If Star Trek is chosen it is what it is, but if you’re voting Star Trek, there needs to be a reason beyond the IP choice because so far from the Star Trek camp I haven’t heard much at all.

I think if it’s a tie, maybe we have people from both camps work on concepts and vote again? Granted, that may not change votes.
If it winds up being a tie, I'm not opposed to leaving it to the fates and letting it be a random choice.

The style I was thinking of was perhaps something akin to some of the more recent films, which are set in an alternate timeline with the setting of TOS (known as the Kelvin timeline, for simplicity's sake in referencing them). Basically, tap into TOS and TNG for the overall sense of optimism and atmosphere, while also pulling from the Kelvin timeline's action and excitement.

I’ve never seen Star Trek so this might be very incorrect but there could be a ride similar to Space Fantasy at Universal Japan
