And that makes it a tie... so does anybody have any ideas (other than randomizing the IP) to determine what we use?
While I still believe Star Trek would offer more diversity to the park and offer some interesting possibilities, I am willing to change my vote to Lord of the Rings so that we can continue forward on our work for this round.

“Fate is with you, master Baggins.”

I rolled it five times and got 4-1 LOTR.

Just to be fair since I didn’t want to force anyone to abstain or change their vote if they didn’t want. I screen recorded it so that you could see The whole process. Now that I’ve done that, I realized I can’t upload videos to this site from my camera roll, so let me just upload it to twitter and link it.
It's not a problem for me. Though I have my personal preference, the fact of the matter is that this is a project I'm working on with all of you, not just by myself. I feel like it says something that we've already seen some great ideas turn up in this thread for Lord of the Rings, so clearly there is a spark that has already lit for plenty on that topic. So, I've got no issue with going for that as this new section of Epic Universe.

I’ll say this: despite spending all day debating between this two franchises, I think both would fit excellently for our project, and both will have their own pros and cons. Star Trek is a great IP to use and I will do what I can to see it later in the competition.

But as important as the IP is we still have so much more to do! There’s still lots of room for creativity and nuance. This is where all the folks not familiar with LOTR come in. We’ll want an experience that like the Wizarding World rewards guests aware of the franchise with extra immersive details, but is still consistent and easy to follow for Joe from Topeka.

There’s a lot to do until Sunday, so let’s design the best land possible!

Very well put! I think that we've got a lot of exciting ideas; we just need to be able to narrow it down haha! Like you said, it's important that this relates well to everyone, regardless of their familiarity with LOTR, which is going to be one of the most important things for us to do. So excited to see what we come up with!

Well said. I was definitely pushing for LOTR but I was quite impressed by the ideas behind Star Trek and I think that had it won we definitely could’ve done something great with it.

But now, let’s get this ball rolling, I’m excited To see what we can do as the Next Generation!

I have a fun idea for a LoTR rapids attraction. There’s a rumor that tests were done for a new rapids ride system. Imagine using magnets underneath the boat and in the flume in order to help control the movement. As opposed to the rapids controlling where the boat is moved in the flume, you could use magnets to help push to where you want it to go. Plus, you’d be able to point the raft in a particular direction for greater show control. It’s like Shanghai’s Pirates of the Caribbean. Another option that was tested would be to slide that same raft onto a base that has a roller coaster track from above that could pick it up. This would allow a traditional raft ride to actually be combined with roller coaster elements. While it surely sounds ambitious, it could really lend itself to the environment of Lord of the Rings

What if this was combined with my idea for a dark ride through the story of LotR? Parts indoors, parts outdoors? I love your idea btw!

This would be amazing for a Mirkwood dark ride. It starts with you being captured by the Wood Elves. You go through the palace’s river system in a giant barrel when Bilbo shows up and re-routes you to the outside, where all the dwarves are trying to escape by hiding in the barrels. There can be moments where gravity stops making full sense, like Legolas shoots an arrow and tries to keep you from leaving, with the magnets keeping you in toe for a tense moment before releasing back to water. It would feel right out of the movies.

So just to clear up, what is our location? Are we sticking with the idea @Outbound gave us The other day or do we want to choose something else?

Personally, I think Rivendell is an important location with a backdrop of the Misty Mountains. I think we could easily suspend disbelief and shrink the size of Middle Earth and place a small area of Hobbiton and Bree, plus if we really wanted to have Mordor, I could see it.

I really like the idea of having a ride themed to the Mines of Moria and the Balrog in the Misty Mountains, but I also feel some of the other locations are important too

My idea was to do an entry through Bilbo’s hobbit hole, emerging into the Shire with the Radiator Springs Racers type water ride that takes riders through the story of the Lord of the Rings and that way we just have to use Mordor as a set rather than building an entire area for it. Also in the shire is a celebration of the defeat of Sauron complete with a One Ring Mad Tea Party type spinner and a Giant Eagle Astro Orbiter type spinner. The shire itself would be themed to a village like Hobbiton and Bree. There would then be a path towards Rivendell with a diverging path to the Lonely Mountain. In the mountain would be a story telling roller coaster describing the history of the Dwarves, including an encounter with Smaug. I prefer the Lonely Mountain to the Misty Mountains because I think there’s a better story telling opportunity there. Also, I prefer it to the mines of Moria because, although they’re both centered on the dwarves, the Lonely Mountain features Smaug. In Rivendell, there would be an extravagant restaurant and an elaborate stage show about the Elves. Although, if we wanted, it could actually work better to eliminate the stage show and transfer the LOTR ride from the Shire to Rivendell and make the Shire solely focused on the celebration. Actually, thinking on that more, that might be a lot better and less confusing. Like I said earlier, I like this idea because it includes the three main races of LOTR while appealing to most if not all age groups.

I definitely agree with moving the main ride to Rivendell over the Shire and letting Shire be more of a celebration.

Personally I think the Mines of Moria fit better, since Smaug is dead in the timeline, but I could see a compromise here.

Keep the Misty Mountains with a Mines of Moria ride, but also include a smaller version of the Lonely Mountain with a walkthrough encounter with Smaug. Have the area be telling the story of the Hobbit in a sort of hybridization of the Sleeping Beauty walkthrough at Disneyland and it all culminates into a massive animatronic dragon like at DLP. It’d be a way of still featuring the Hobbit in some way while still keeping the timeline making sense

I like that idea... I was thinking that it was more like the dwarves retelling their history in the Lonely Mountain, since I think that’s their home after the events of LOTR. I’m not sure what happened to Moria after the events of LOTR or which one makes more sense to use in the context of the timeline.

Yeah the Mines of Moria idea I have is mainly to feature after it has been abandoned anyway. I want to do a ride using a system similar to Dinosaur or Indiana Jones through the abandoned halls of Moria following the Fellowship as it is crawling with goblins and eventually culminates in the battle between the Balrog and Gandalf. But I certainly think that both my ride and Smaug/history of dwarfs can totally coexist
