Can you even imagine how much Disney could get for the speakeasy experience?

No kidding! They could get you to enter through those warehouses off Ball Road, and then sneak in via Toontown.

The prices they could charge would be astronomical! And they could really do it up. I'd gladly pay whatever they charge. $500? $750? A special Prohibition Package that includes cocktails in New Orleans Square for $1,000?

Just tell me where to pay and take my money!

I bet there's some execs in TDA who wish they had the corporate cojones to pull something like that off.

When this all started, I actually wondered why Disney wasn't doing limited 'socially distanced' tours of the park daily, and charging a ton for it. Without the crowds, many would have the chance to take in details and with smaller tour groups, they could really be something special. Assuming the guides are actually knowledgeable enough to answer any questions thrown their way.

But as fun as this would be, I imagine the backlash would be immense. "Disneyland reopens only for the rich and ultra wealthy".

My sister and brother in law came down from Sacramento for a month. After I asked if she'd cut my hair, she told me she'd been cutting my brother in law's for 30 years! Who knew?! She did ALOT better job than I did. A mirror for the back didn't help me. I took a chunk off my knuckle trying to trim longer sections with scissors.

I think Disney could propose 100 person capacity limit, 2 people per ride at a time, and Newsome's crew would find some reason that wouldn't work.

Headed to COSTCO today, and thought about the Great Clips near it. The wait on the App was only 11 minutes, so took advantage before going to get a Vacuum to replace the one she broke earlier today....

By the Way, COSTCO has $24 3 to 4 Feet Nobel Furs, so ended up with a second tree. The first is a 5 to 6 Foot one from a local tree setup (The farm drives their trucks and campers from the Northwest (Oregon or Washington), it was a lot more, and we got some hybrid, part Nobel and part Douglas.

Then went to Norm's for a last Outdoor Meal.

Well, if Slapfish remains open, will be heading there....

And got this from Chef Bruno of the Anaheim White House... (Lisa loves the place, and Chef Bruno knows me from before he got a Star in front of the Disneyland Resort, so he stops by if he is working. )

San Diego mayor slams Newsom’s coronavirus lockdowns, says 'no science' behind new restrictions | Fox News

>>The Republican mayor of San Diego, Kevin Faulconer, called out Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom Friday over the growing frustration in the state newly imposed coronavirus restrictions, telling Fox News there is “no science behind” the orders.

“We get new executive orders with no science behind it, and so when you see this new order that says, for example, we're going to shut down outdoor dining, which has been working very successfully, when it says we're going to shut down playgrounds for families and kids, once again there’s no science behind it, and that’s why you see this growing anger and frustration,” Faulconer told “America’s Newsroom" Friday.<<

>>Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva recently said he would take a hands-off approach to the restrictions.

“I want to stay away from businesses that are trying to comply," he said. "They bent over backwards to modify their operations to conform to these orders and then they have the rug yanked out from underneath them. That's a disservice. I don't want to make them more miserable."

“People are losing confidence,” Faulconer said. “People want to do the right thing. They are working really hard to keep everyone safe, and that's our goal. Yet, when you have orders like this that come out, again, not based on any data or science, people begin to lose the trust and faith of our public health officials. That's not something we want.”<<

Wow, I knew almost all the SoCal County Sheriff's had stated publicly that they won't be enforcing Newsom's orders, but I didn't think the LA County Sheriff could/would be as bold as the suburban counties. Good for him!

Behind a paywall but available to read for free via The Drudge Report.

Some selected quotes.

"In an emotional televised address on Nov. 22, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven pleaded with Swedes to cancel all nonessential meetings and announced a ban on gatherings of more than eight people, which triggered the closure of cinemas and other entertainment venues. Starting Monday, high schools will be closed."

[...]

"Last week Sweden’s total coronavirus death count crossed 7,000. Neighboring Denmark, Finland and Norway, all similar-sized countries, have recorded since the start of the pandemic 878, 415 and 354 deaths respectively. For the first time since World War II, Sweden’s neighbors have closed their borders with the country."

[...]

"Instead, the West’s first coronavirus vaccine was authorized in Britain last week, Sweden’s death rate remains an outlier among its neighbors, and Dr. Tegnell acknowledged in late November that the new surge in infections showed there was “no sign” of herd immunity in the country.

Meanwhile, Sweden’s laissez-faire pandemic strategy has failed to deliver the economic benefits its proponents had predicted. In the first half of the year, Sweden’s gross domestic product fell by 8.5% and unemployment is projected to rise to nearly 10% in the beginning of 2021, according to the central bank and several economic institutes."

[...]

"In Stockholm, Anna Lallerstedt runs a chain of three popular restaurants that was started by her parents in the 1980s. Last month she closed two of them, shedding nearly 100 jobs. She says she fears that her last restaurant, now employing just over 10 people, might also be at risk with the current surge expected to peak around the Christmas season, which traditionally brings substantial revenues."

Looks like California Adventure is closing Buena Vista Street down because of the new lockdown.

Clickbait title does not match clickbait content...

Restaurants and food and beverage locations that do not offer take-out options will close starting Monday, the Orange County Register reports. Retail locations, meanwhile, will continue to operate at reduced capacity.

Any food service that does not allow 'take out' will close... and that is all. Take-out is still available (whether you can eat it there on a bench or unoccupied table, I don't know). But the merch shops will be open.

So... It's not shutting down....

Until Disney announces it is, which could happen any moment or never.

The new order unfortunately doesn't allow eating foods outdoors. Because of this most restaraunts will close. Disney stated that food can not be consumed on property.

It's too far a walk for people to bring food back to their car. Just 48 hours ago the place was hopping and everyone was eating and having a good time (even in the cold).
I certainly hope Disney stops charging $10 for parking now...but they probably won't.

I had a great time recently so am sad to say that I don't see this being feasible at all for Disney if this continues. Will people park and walk there just for the shops? Will people buy ice cream and bring it back to their car before it melts?

I think a few things from Earl of Sandwich is about the only food offering that could withstand the long walk back to your car in Simba. It helps Earl's is also the closest to the parking lot.

The rest of the stuff? Hot food would be cold, cold food would be melted, and most things don't transport well anyway. Even the bags of freshly made beignets at Ralph Brennan's really should be eaten immediately there on the little patio outside; after about 10 minutes the beignets get soggy and they deflate.

There is no point to take-out food at Downtown Disney. But I can't wait to hear the first online complaint when some Dockers-clad manager tells someone they can't eat their $8 ice cream cone from Salt & Straw and they must leave Disney property to have a lick. 🤣

Those are all good points. The bakery is open in DtD and Buena Vista it seems as well.

Now here's the thing I don't get. Why doesn't Disney offer meal pickup at the simba lot?

They can sell all kinds of things: Churros, Skewers, Monte Cristos, Corn Dogs, Fried Chicken, Turkey Legs, Mint Juleps etc, and they'd make a lot of money.

They could use the kitchens in the Disneyland or Paradise Pier hotels so it could be brought fresh to the parking lot without a long travel time.

If they don't want to do that, they can sell "bake at home kits" like portos is doing, where they freeze the food right before baking it and ship it to customers.

If I was running the place I wouldve had that as a contingency plan ready to go for in case lock downs returned. Heck I'd have no shame and would be hustling anything I could to make a buck. I'd open up the park for one party a day at ridiculous prices.

Brilliant idea on the food pickup in Simba!

You could do all sorts of things with that concept. And even have a dedicated area for people to tailgate in their own cars. Heck, install a movie screen in Simba or the old DTD parking lots north of ESPN and do drive-in movies with classic Disney films eating your favorite Disneyland foods. They'd make a fortune!

How is it that these guys steering the sinking ship haven't thought of this yet? Now they are standing around with their pants down after they were blindsighted by the last order.

For their salary they should have mulitple contingency plans for further restrictions that they can switch to instantaneously.

You'd think, wouldn't you? Just between us two guys sitting around on the Internet waiting for lunch, we just spitballed a handful of great ideas using their huge unused property that could bring in all sorts of revenue and put a whole bunch of furloughed CM's back to work.

But instead, the TDA execs are spending this morning making sure all the Carthay Circle reservations through January, 2021 have been cancelled.

I'm often reminded that the problem with too many TDA executives is that they simply don't understand the product they are in charge of and that they are selling. Too many of these guys, especially whoever the DLR President Du Jour is, have no inherent understanding and genuine affection for Disneyland and what it means.

Ken Potrock had worked for Disney for decades before getting moved to Disneyland after the previous President only worked there for six months. The President before her had worked there for only a year or so. They all had professionally curated Instagram accounts showing them smiling on property, for the 6 to 12 months before they leave town.

Mr. Potrock had been an executive in "Global Alliance Marketing" for most of the past 20 years. What does that even mean? Does he even know how cool Disneyland is? Can he even find the Simba Parking Lot on his own?
