Summer Resorts

Nothing beats those Disney blues than planning another trip. Although we're not planning to go back until summer of 2010, I am starting to consider resorts so that I can make a budget.

We are planning to go for 10-14 days this time around, with a few days for other Florida destinations such as Cape Kennedy, Universal and Sea World, as well as a beach day.

So, usually a spring breaker myself, which resort do you prefer in the summer months (non-value)?

Let's face it, ANY Disney resort is AMAZING!!!!! That having been said, I would definitely go for at least a Moderate so you have the themed pool!!! Some of the greatest themed pools though are found at the Deluxe level. Check out Stormalong Bay at the Yacht & Beach Club resorts. I also liked the zero entry pool at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Did you want to be any closer to one particular park over the others? Belle

I would say Beach Club. It is busy in the summer so you want convenience, and the ability to possibly leave the parks mid-day to take a swim/nap. Which brings me to my next reason, the pool is probably the best on property. You also have so many dining options that are within walking distance.

DS and I are there the week leading up to Labour Day every year. Next year we're going to Beach Club, '10 we'll probably try Wilderness Lodge or Port Orleans Riverside...

I'm working on staying at every resort once... :D

2010 will be good timing if your DS is a Harry Potter fan! Universal opens The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

KSC needs a full day itself, getting there and back is a long trek. It's well worth it though.

BC/YC and BWI are a little out of the budget (unless I rent or buy DVC points or something). AKL savannah or pool view works, though. Silly question, but do the animal smells intensify in summer with the heat and humidity?

As for parks, we love Epcot and DAK.

Right now, I would love to be able to take Jackson to the Poly. He loved it there when we ate at 'Ohana and lazed on the beach for a bit. We will be going the last week of August/first of week of September as school in 2010 won't start until September 7 :sohappy:

Other than the Poly, there's always our fave moderate POR, but WL, AKL and OKW are also in the running.

Been to KSC a few times myself, but Jackson has never been. I think he's get a hoot out of it.

I agree 100%. We will always go with a moderate when possible. We absolutely loved POFQ last summer. It was very easy to get back and forth in the afternoons for a swim break and the pool was large. Also if you are going for an extended time you might want that little extra space that the moderates give you.

My family has only stayed on property once, but we just loved the cabins at Fort Wilderness. The fact that your trip is longer, it might suit you to take advantage of the full kitchen that is in the cabins. It might not be the totaly ideal spot on the property, it takes a little time to get to the parks, but not terrible.

As far as any untoward smells I didnt notice anything while staying/ visiting AKL. I stayed there in May of 2007 but have been there numerous times for Boma and Jiko.
I wasnt ever terribly impressed with OKW. I think it is just way too big, unless you have a car and need more of a Home away from Home accomodation. Are you a DVC member? Belle

No, I'm not. We're hoping Santa can do something about that! (The family has been talking about it for a while now ... parents, brother and SIL, and myself.)

I would rent points from an existing DVC member and do a stay that way before you commit to it to make sure you like the accomodations. Also make sure you do one of the DVC tours. DVC doesnt work for me and at least one other friend I know. Several of my friends and family members do own and love it so it can go either way. Belle
