I`d like to say SSE isn`t finished due to something rather than cost.

yeah i would too. :(

could it also be they arent doing summer nighttastic because they are gearing up for something for the 40th in the fall instead? Just thinking out of the box for a moment. such as some say a rehabbed spectro is returning for it, some say its gone for good, no one really seems to know. but maybe they will do that with a tweaked new fireworks show? oh wait, this is tdo were dealing with.... ok more :(

Yeah...my impression the last few years has been that TDO doesn't want to do anything unless they are forced to by people higher up. Imo, there seems to be a real lack of creativity and enthusiasm - and more number crunching and cutbacks. It's a sad feeling to have when I am there...

So Al Lutz has an update today on Miceage full of juicy gossip from Disneyland. But there's a part that reminded me of this thread, and may help explain what's happened to Nightastic! at WDW. From the Lutz update...

"Once both theme parks finally do get through the June 2nd media party, and as many B List celebrities as the Southern California limousine fleet can handle are safely driven back home, the summer season kicks in to high gear immediately for the Anaheim theme parks with every attraction operating and a full roster of entertainment. With the exception of no parade at DCA due to growing construction along the parade route for Buena Vista Street and Cars Land, the summer season in Anaheim begins June 3rd and will have the following operating hours and major entertainment seven days per week through the end of August:

Disneyland Park 8:00 A.M. to Midnight
Mickey’s Soundsational Parade at 4:00 P.M. & 6:30 P.M.
Fantasmic! at 9:00 P.M. & 10:30 P.M.
Magical Fireworks Spectacular at 9:30 P.M.

Disney California Adventure 10:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M.
elecTRONica from Dusk to 10:00 P.M.
World of Color at 9:00 P.M. & 10:15 P.M.

That’s in addition to the afternoon stage shows in the Hyperion Theater, Frontierland’s Golden Horseshoe, or DCA’s newly christened Disney Theater, plus all the usual summertime entertainment like the All-American College Band and the gaggle of Nightastic dance parties and shows around both parks. TDA will keep the Nightastic! theme going this summer, although it’s been a struggle for TDA’s marketing team to try and create a message that incorporates all the Nightastic! add-on entertainment in addition to the major new rides and new parade also opening this summer. And after 18 months of heavy construction the Disneyland Hotel executives also want to publicly market their remade rooms and new Polynesian restaurant and bar with the clever interactive effects that are activated upon ordering certain cocktails or menu items, plus the upgraded pool area and monorail waterslides...."

So perhaps the decision to drop Nightastic! at WDW is more a marketing thing? Maybe they've got a big 40th Anniversary campaign they will be kicking off soon and they don't want to muddle the message with Nightastic?

Nightastic! was a SoCal thing before it came to WDW, remember, and it was meant to just be a summer campaign to get locals to the park for some special seasonal after-dark entertainment. If there's a 40th campaign kicking off at the same time, Nightatsic might just be in the way at WDW.

I am thinking the same thing still, they may be gearing up for the 40th in the fall instead of the summer nighttastic repeat. I would rather a new MK afternoon parade over anything but that isnt sounding promising. Word is a remodleed spectromagic is returning. Maybe TDO will deliver something for the 40th afterall. His article also stated the memories campaign has not come across well at all, at least in cali. But here I would think they could make it a 40th memories campaign and that would really be nice.

I would give anything for you to be right. But my intuition tells me we won't be seeing much for a 40th either. There hasn't been so much as a rumor about anything for the 40th. Not to mention, there is a huge gap between August 14th and October 1st. The bottom line is that TDO doesn't care to do anything festive for locals. They could care less. CA thrives on it...

Any updates on Summer Nightastic 2011??? All I need to hear the return of spectromagic!!

It looks like the Summer Nightastic concept has been ditched. Disneyland is now officially promoting Soundtastic Summer instead. And WDW, I guess, is hoping no one notices that they aren't doing anything. It's sad. The largest resort and they can't throw together a simple summer theme.

As far as Spectromagic, the soonest I think we could hope for Spectro to come back would be next summer. And even then - MSEP may stick around awhile longer.

Disneyland's Summer Soundsational official website is here http://disneyland.disney.go.com/events/summer/

It's clever how they go from the stars to under the sea on that website to sum up the summer offerings at Disneyland. But it does look like the "Nightastic" brand has been mothballed. It is odd that they aren't at least using it again at WDW though, since much of last years WDW Nightastic offerings are returning (MSEP, fireworks), or could easily return (Tower of Terror changes, dance parties).

I was very impressed with SNFS last year and was hoping and looking forward to a repeat of last year...

I do hope they decide to at the very least do something of epic proportions for the 40th, but something tells me the trend of being dissapointed by TDO will only continue for the forseeable future. :brick:

Disney Soundsational Summer:) TDA is offended by ('s) :ROFLOL:

I'm glad DLR ditched Summer Nightasic! to much Fantasmic!(both in name pun and logo) This summers offerings are much better than in 2009 when there was really nothing new to the resort.

Well, there was a new dragon named Murphy, but he didn't show up until Labor Day weekend! He made the cutoff for "summer" with about 36 hours to spare. :ROFLOL:

I know everyone was very excited to see if anything came up about SNFS but I'm a diehard Wishes! fan, I even have the soundtrack on my iPod! So I guess my question would be does anyone know what it looks like the show is gonna be for July 2011? I've heard some rumors about Spectromagic but I'm not sure if ya'll said it was going to be 2012 or this year?

If we haven't heard something by now, it is safe to assume that there won't be any parade changes going into summer. They would use it as a promotional campaign if there were changes.

Its sounding more and more like spectromagic will be in 2012, although why they wouldnt bring it back in the fall as part of a small 40th kickoff...:brick: I guess there is to be no 40th anything which is sad. Except for the Tiki Room.
Maybe they are skipping nightastic for something 40th related in the fall?

They could announce it at Destination D. My bets are on the D23 convention in August.

I suspect WDW is building as much as they can with lots of celebations through out 2012 and early 2013. I think they are going to wrap all the new attractions (Fantasyland, Hyperan Wharf, etc.) along with a reimagined Spectromagic and likely a new fireworks show. If we do not hear announcements at D23 I suspect something closer to October when the 40th really occurs.

You have higher hopes than me for the future at WDW. I think WDW management is just trying to maximize their profits - probably to make hefty bonuses for themselves. I think this comes at the expense of any special events or "extras" that don't directly charge the guest extra. It just seems to be the new trend there...
