:slurp: :slurp: Best on the cob too - I'd like to grill it that way!
I'm such a snob when i comes to corn on the cob. I grew up on a farm and we'd literally pick the corn while the water was heating up to cook it. It always cracks me up to see "fresh" corn here in the supermarkets in May, when it hasn't even been planted here yet. We only buy corn from our local farm here.

I agree- Mom and Dad used to have a larger vegetable garden when I was a kid, and the BEST corn you could ever eat was from our garden. Mom would also blanch and freezer pack corn, and it would taste sooo good at holiday times.
Now, I can't have too much corn, it seems to no longer like me. :( But I can't give it up entirely. :slurp:

We used to freeze it that way too. My folks had a huge garden - acres of plants - and my mom would can or freeze all the vegetables to last all winter. We also raised our own beef cows but I won't go into detail there....

Yes, thank you... :lookaroun Although my dad grew up on a farm, so he could tell you anything you wanted to know about raising cows and pigs. Actually we have to old home movie on videotape of he and his brothers during butchering time....not graphic or anything, but it was set to the music from the 'Godfather'

Hello.

Just got back from washing the dish clothes and towels and aprons from the fire hall. Everything is covered in grease and wont come clean so now I have to through it all out and get new stuff. :fork: I hope I can get another check from treasurer. :lookaroun Of course, this could just put us in the poor house. This group that is doing the dinner and raffle is struggling badly. I hope they come through with it. I told them I would wave my fee for catering and even will do the desserts out of my own pocket. (Cheap desserts at that).

You could probably get some at a dollar store, while not fancy, that should do the trick. Although did you try soaking things in Lysol before washing them?

I soaked them in a solution of dawn and hot water. The problem is instead of using the equipment that we have to clean the stove and griddle, they wipe it down with the dish towels.
George and I used to head the kitchen and did 95% of the cooking down there. Last year we decided we needed a break (plus were upset because no one would help out) so we left it up to others who wanted to take over. They rarely cleaned the place or used what ever was at hand to wipe down dirty stuff (and never washed what they used). I went down today because I saw how mess it was and as I began to clean there were dishes that were put away and never cleaned. Food in the pantry was over a year expired. We are lucky the health department as not been called. :hurl:
