Summer Magic with All Our Friends

I haven't met anyone down here yet. That's a bummer, though I have been busy. But I'm starting to see some free time now. I was supposed to see my friend Megan at MGM on Saturday. She was working Fantasmic but I had to leave early cause it wouldn't stop raining.

What happened?

That's a long story. I'll copy and paste what I sent someone on Facebook.

First, I need to preface this with a bit of Disney trivia. Let's say I'm a forgetful tourist who happens to be on their last day of their trip to Disney World. I didn't purchase a ticket to any parks today because I'm leaving for the airport at noon and why pay for only three hours in the parks? BUT, I just remembered that I really wanted that Splash Mountain t-shirt I saw in the gift shop. How am I going to get it now without a ticket?!

This is where Disney thinks of everything. They have FREE one-hour tickets into the parks for that very reason. Basically, you pay the full price of a ticket; if you're back to guest services before your hour is up, they refund you fully. Pretty nice. I've done it once. It was very stressful.

So yesterday after my friends and I decided to take the random and spontaneous trip to Downtown Disney for dinner, I tell them about these tickets. I said that if we wanted to be risky, they could get some and we could go into the park for kicks -- I'd be using my annual pass. They're all for it. My friends are crazy.

So after a nice dinner at the Earl of Sandwich restaurant, we go to the Magic Kingdom and they buy their tickets at 8:22:12. We have an hour from that point in the park. Once inside, we bust over to Big Thunder Mountain (had to pick the furthest attraction from the entrance of course) and get in the 40 minute line. We're waiting, and the whole time checking our watches to make sure we'll get out in time. As the time gets close to our deadline, we start freaking out because we're not on the ride yet. In fact, we got to the part of the line where you could SEE the trains -- but decided to turn around and leave, or else, as my friend Paul said, it would have been a "very expensive ride on Thunder Mountain." So we get out of the line and start SPRINTING toward the exit. We have about 8 minutes to get out of the park. BUT THE LIGHT PARADE IS GOING. Basically, we're retarded.

So we can't go through Adventureland or else we'll be blocked off from the exit. So that means we have to go all the way around into Fantasyland and through the castle to get to main street. Only, the castle is closed because they're preparing it for the fireworks! I panicked. We had to keep running all the way to Tomorrowland to get to Main Street. In other words, we've run around the whole park. Sprinted. We're tired. Paul's been up since 6AM. It's now 9:18 PM.

Main Street is PACKED full of people because of the parade. We had to walk most of the way, and at one point I had to like hurdle a stroller because it was in the way. No joke. We get halfway down Main Street and the crowd lightens up, so I start running again. I turn the corner into town square, look behind me... AND MY FRIENDS AREN'T THERE. I start freaking out. But like... 5 seconds later, they burst through and I start sprinting under the train station and out the turnstyles. They run up to the guest services desk and return they're tickets. All the while I'm off pacing back and forth freaking out that we didn't make it. I won't tell you yet if we did.

So then we walk over to the Contemporary Resort and decided to watch Wishes (the fireworks) from a balcony. But then we discover we can take the stairs to the roof. And we watch it up there! It was so cool. After that, we went down to the lobby to sit and just contemplate everything that happened in the past hour.

While we're sitting there, Paul looks at his receipts from when he bought his ticket. Remember when I said the time was 8:22:12? Well, his return time was 9:22:10. TWO MORE SECONDS and they would have charged. It still blows my mind.

So that was my night. Completely worth it. So exciting. I haven't had that much excitement at Disney in a long time haha.

Well, Orlando residents live here. They're always here. WDW isn't as much a grand magnificent destination than it is a nice place to visit every once and a while. It's also the place that crams the roads with tourists. I always hear residents here talk about staying away from the "tourist area".

You'll feel like that soon enough I bet.

I always said I would like to live close enough to hop over to the parks on a whim and everybody tells me that I'd grow tired of them after awhile.

That's how I'd feel about it. I think where we live and the amount of times we go is good for us. We don't always do everything we want on our trips but we don't worry because we'll be back  And now that all of us are working, we'll be upgrading to AP's :D
