Suiting Up for Spring with Magic Friends

My hubby claims that he loves to cook, but I don't remember the last time he actually made a meal. I remember him inviting me over for dinner when we were dating he would come up with some idea for whatever meat he wanted to cook, but that would be it. There would be no sides or anything else with it, just a creatively cooked piece of meat:lol:

 No, I really LOVE to cook! Love food, love Food Network, cook for parties and luncheons at work ,I'm always looking for new recipes or recipes I can put my own spin on. Yeah, food is great! :slurp:

Sure you can....something that's unique to the New England area, for example....a favorite recipe your mom has passed on to you, things like that. Just because it's old and familiar to you doesn't mean it wouldn't be new and exciting to someone else.

I tried making a list of how many of us there are...I'm counting 15-16 that are fairly regular posters, plus a few more that stop by from time to time....if everyone just contributes 2 recipes, that 30-40 total. Not that you need to be limited to two - you could add more....
Just thinking.
That's a pretty good number! I'm sure some people (Bunny) will contribute a few more. :) I'm really liking this idea!

He loves food network too...he just says over and over "that looks really good" which really means "will you make that for me" He is so into food network and cooking shows that two of his top name choice are Rocco and Giada. I told him we are not having a food network baby.

Yay!!! :sohappy:

So, are we really going to go ahead with this?

I'm definetly in!

Master Chef Joe do you have any freezable ideas for me?

Ummmmmmmmmmm... ya know I saw that and was trying to actually think of some stuff...

I never really freeze anything... I will generally fridge things because I'll eat them within 24 hours (usually within like 2 hours to be honest) of when I cook them.

But... things that would likely freeze and re-heat well...

Well like you said, baked Ziti...

What about like Lasagna? Lasagna would likely reheat pretty well without too much trouble.

Caseroles would be pretty good... mainly I'd say anything that is like a one-dish item. If you have like a mixed plate in 5he freezer when you reheat it, you'll be re-cooking it and different things may not re-cook as well as others.

Certainly wouldn't do vegatables, especially since you could go buy some frozen peas or corn or something and just heat them up whenever.

Don't know if you like meats, if you do (can you even eat like steak when pregnant???)

but with any meats... first time you cook them, I'd undercook them a bit since when you reheat them they will re-cook themselves...

Mashed potatoes may not be bad... but when you reheat them maybe ya know... re-add some ingredients, throw a little butter, maybe a touch of milk in on them...

I'll keep trying to think for ya, that's what I got off the top of my head though...

:ROFLOL:on a Food Network baby.

This is exciting, guys! I'm open to any suggestions....and if we could set some kind of deadline on getting the recipes to me? I have no problem typing them up and putting them together in a booklet. Maybe by the end of April get me the recipes?

SOOOOOO busy today!

I just wanted to pop in today and say hi! I received several messages from you guys about tomorrow. Thanks so much! I plan to respond later this week when I'll probably be bored out of my mind...

I have so much I have to wrap up here at work before I have to take the rest of the week off, so I need to run. I'll try to update you guys on Wednesday.

Surgery is at noon (central) tomorrow. It's outpatient, so I'm hoping to be home by 5...? My dad is having another MRI Wednesday. Say a prayer they don't find anything!

Love you guys!

I think that sounds like a reasonable amount of time. How would you like us to get the recipes to you?

OOOO! Who did the template for my apron??? We could use that for the cover! We'd have to add a few names since we've added some friends since then. But a picture of an apron w/ all of those Mickey's w/ our names on them would be super cute!!

I'll be honest... I do consider myself a good cook... but my problem is... I'm the pickiest eater in the world. EVER. So, I generally do not make much of a variety of things... except if I cook for other people.

i actually first got into cooking senior year of college when I made my ex-girlfriend a... oh god what the heck did I make... it was like... i think it was broccoli and chicken alfredo...

i wouldn't touch it, but she loved it... i figured she was being nice, my roommates ended up devouring it.

So, I started getting fancier with my picky dishes, and occassionally made like... Chicken Cordon bleu for them... started making chicken parm... a few fish dishes...

NOTHING spectacular to be honest. But occassionally I whip up something for other people. Everyone tells me it's honestly fantastic, but i never taste it cuz i won't like it...

Maybe I'm really a _________ cook.

So... point is... I've never even made a caserole... (i know and I called myself a chef... *hangs head in shame smiley*)

oh also, you or someone said soups... soups would definitely be a good freezable item.

Probably by PM....then I'll just copy and paste them over to Word and play around with the font, and organize them.

I think that was Dot - and that is an AWESOME idea! I will PM her about it.

I'm definetly a pickier eater than DH. He'll try anything.
