Studios Expansion?

Why wait? Kill it now. Put it out of our misery. And since the Hunchback Theater is next door, use that space, too.
I couldn't agree more...In my eyes both of those "venues" are prime real estate for some much needed expansion to the studios...Although if they can change the road system than I am all for that...and one more thing...the elusive "largest hidden mickey", being MGM itself, sure is a let down and arguably not a "mickey" at all

It's not a mickey anymore. Sunset Blvd. destroyed one ear and the hat destroyed the face.

But yeah, pretty much everything between Muppets and Rockin', wrapping behind GMR, is usable space. And hell, GMR is also arguably usable space (I'd miss it like hell, but still). Same with Epic. But I digress, focussing on all that stuff back there, it's mostly empty buildings, and what isn't empty is an attraction they'd be better without.

LMA is popular, but doesn't do much and saps money like nobodies business.

Yep, that`s a parking garage backstage. If I recall, it was built for Animation when the department was expanded (ironically)

Never say never - remember the proposal to build one at Team Disney / Downtown Disney? And I bet 20 years ago you`d never have thought Disneyland would have one. Wait for the second one to be built in Anaheim....

By parking garage on WDW property, I meant a huge one for guests, not the small one backstage at the Studios.

Most of the buildings are actually still in use, just not for movie production purposes. Taking out the Backlot Tour shuttles portion would free up pretty much all of the only available space back there. If you were to take out the shuttle route (but not the costuming building and workshops - they are still in use), the pointless "LMA practice lot" which is rarely used, and Catastrophe Canyon, there would be room for a small expansion, or one or two attractions.

I have always seen the cast members going and coming from the lot just west of the guest lots. I also noticed that when you look at all the ariel vies of mgm, if the south entrance road, which isnt really neccesary, was closed, there a ton of room for even a whole replica of the Studios to the south. But if Disney can find room for new stuff in Californis, im sure they can squeeze in anything to the Studios. And as far as the room between fantasmic and B&B, the map doesnt show the lake as big as it is just to the East.

If they do remove the backlot tour I think they will also remove the costume shop. I would think they would be better off in a new facility on or off property. Last time I took the tour it looked like a sweat shop. Very crowded with projects. I can't believe that is the most productive environment. They long ago gave up being a "working studio" so I think you will see all workshops relocated. Without those, Catastrophe Canyon, the movie props, trams, loading station and tram mainteanance areas and walking portion of the backstage tour there is a ton of space. Certainly enough for a "land" if they go that direction. Don't think LMA is leaving anytime soon. They would give it a "Cars" overlay first. (Which might even be an improvement).:lookaroun

You're right - they could move the workshops if they had to, which, in addition to removing Catastrophe Canyon, the Backlot Tour route, The Backlot Tour shuttle storage and maitenance area, and the pointless "LMA practice lot", would free up a lot of space. All of the buildings north of the costuming building, however, are still in use.

If they're doing a real overhaul, though, do you really think this is the company that would worry too much about getting rid of something that 1) eats up a TON of money and 2) was originally called temporary anyway?

I know temporary doesn't mean a thing there, but it CAN be used as a good scape goat.

I guess it makes sense. We've got tunnels, and Epcot and DAK have huge buildings off stage. Ya'll need storage and office places somewhere.
