Goldie hawn and rick moranis were your tour guides
Only in the preshow queue for the walking part; you also had Geroge Lucas, R2D2 and C3PO, Peewee Herman and Mel Gibson, Warren Beaty and Siskel and Eggbert. The Lottery was originally shown in the tram station queue entrance.
Does anyone remember that Universal florida had a tram tour?
Yep; you can see it in my Universal Studios 1990 video at Mousebits.
You would think since that was what they were known for in hollywood they would have done a better job.
There wasn`t anywhere else to show since the park had no outdoor locations that wern`t backstage.

I forgot about mel and peewee, wernt they in the sound portion and they switched their voices? All back when NY street was still a set and not walkable.

Did anyone actually believe they were filming a movie on cat canyon the first time they rode it?? Cause you know those tram guides were great actors.

Im going to have to check that vid out, thanks

Why not reinforce the guard rails on the tram path for Catastrophe Canyon, and make it a walk through attraction, kind of like Twister at Universal Studios.
I'm not sure anyone would actually walk back there if they did that. One of the only reasons the BLT has any popularity any more, I would imagine, is b/c it is still a ride that allows people to sit down and be out of direct sunlight for a reasonably long period of time.

Given the current set up, I would agree with you. However, if it's built up a bit more than it could work. Question though - would this involve guests having to walk over the runoff path for the LMA cars? That may create a few problems.

Funnily enough, one of the proposals for Pixar Place phase 2 is to keep Cat Canyon.

Just thought I`d mention it.

Interesting... so how would CC fit in Pixar Place? What type of theme would it have... or what attraction would it go with?

Inquiring minds...

I really would like to see the backlot tour stay, but become a special effects tour. My proposal would be to keep the water show, but update it completely maybe to be a pirates of the Caribbean stunt/special effects show instead of the old Pearl Harbor show its themed around now.

Then move on to the tour. Instead of being a "working backlot" however we would move past 3 different show scenes. You'd keep catastrophe canyon, but create two more along the route. I'm not certain exactly what those special effects shows should be but I'm certain the bright people at WDI could come up with something grand.

Then loop back around and point out the LMA stunt show as another special effects show that can be seen, then drop us off at the AFI show but add a bunch of kiosks where we can play around with creating our own special effects.

It still wouldn't be anywhere near the backlot tour it was when the park opened, but it would be an attraction worth riding again. Its a shame that this attraction has been given the shaft that it has. It was always one of my greatest memories from visiting MGM years ago, and I hate to see it in the state it is though.

Question about the effects

I remember seeing a video online where there was fire on the right side of the tram (which would be against the wall of the tunnel the tram is in). Am I right or its just my imagination playing tricks?

I rode the Backlot Tour back in 1989 and I can't remember if there was any additional effects back for the Canyon?

I know that generally this attraction isn't very popular on these boards but... it still remains as one of my Must Do attractions every visit.

Perhaps it's because I rode the DLP version before which is very underwhelming so by comparison, WDW is actually rather good.

I wish I could have seen it at it's prime though :(

Thats great that the Cat. Canyon is getting a nice refesh, it needs it. I hope all the effects missing will work.

Not old, just vintage.
I don't think this means that BLT is staying. According to another thread with much discussion about a hybrid Carsland taking it's place, it seems that the BLT would stay with only a direct trip to CC and thats it. And that would be why they've decided to spend time & money on refurbishing only CC.

This definitely makes sense to me. Honestly, I would settle for anything other than what we have right now (expect for maybe the DLP version) I am so ready to have anything other than sitting on a tram listening to an automated spiel that sounds like it was recorded over a hairdryer in the background.
