'Strange World' Disney's 2022 Animated Film

The common thread from "all" the onesie-twosie reviews thus far say it's visually-stunning but weak on story. Expounding on that it seems the characters are dynamic and well-fleshed out but there's little need to root for them. Are the characters likable? The general consensus from the (counts on fingers) five?! early-reviewers suggest the actual "story" was left on the cutting room floor to make room for agendas and enviromental messaging. Take that however you will. Clearly more "miss" than "hit" if it's going for preach and pander.

BUT - imma watch it anyway. Still looks like a fun popcorn flik full of action and adventure. Will judge it on my own merits.
That is not what the pre-reviews that I posted said at all.

Oh? Between all the bickering and OT discussions going on I probably scrolled past it. Granted, I've already made up my mind to see it anyway. Looks fun. Disney's due for a good Sci-Fantasy movie. I was kind of hoping it'd own at the box office for reasons but the reviews I was seeing had me questioning it's success. What did you infer from the early reviews?

Don't worry they may turn on the Disney bots machine for this one. So you'll get reviews that say "Great film, amazing cast. It's a cartoon and has action."
There's your conspiratorial tautology:

It's a bad movie if it gets bad reviews.

And if it gets good reviews, it's a bad movie because of bots.

It's a textbook fallacy and you keep saying this over and over is just trolling.

But... do you troll?... Hmmm....

Speaking of Santa Claus, he's coming a month early this year. OOOOOOOO I can't wait to see my present (the numbers) on this one.
You're rooting for failure. That's pathetic.

I'm only rooting against it because of the blind loyalty that people are showing to it. .... And seemingly everything Disney churns out. If I felt it was decent (which it isn't) then I wouldn't take such pleasure in it's inevitable demise.
And you have seen the movie??? Personally I am not seeing it in theaters as IMO the trailers have been meh…I will probably wait for Disney plus… I can’t say the movie is poor or great as I have not seen it.

All we can judge at this point is whether the trailer is good or not.

To root for it to fail… you must be a very unhappy person that you relish that much in others failures

I might actually go see this one.
I already have my ticket for tomorrow night. I’ve been tracking Rotten Tomatoes as the reviews have started rolling in. At one point today, it was up to 85% positive. Right at this moment, it is 72%. I’ll say this much: The good reviews are VERY good (Hollywood Reporter called it a new classic) but the bad reviews are VERY bad. Midwest Film Journal (whatever that is) called it “an excessively busy, boorish behemoth sweating mightily to bury its basic, boring story”.
Regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing it tomorrow.

I ended up getting tickets for tomorrow. We can trade reviews!

Reviews are coming in. So far, so good! Sorry, haters.

72% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Just out of curiosity, how much is a C- Rotten Tomatoes score worth at a deposit window down at the Burbank branch of Bank of America? 🤔

Teller: Good afternoon, how can I help you?
Sharp Pencil Guy: I'd like to make a deposit into our Strange World account, please.
Teller: Yes, sir. Cash or check?
Sharp Pencil Guy: I've got $48 Million in cash. But I also have a screenshot of a Rotten Tomatoes score of 72%, so can we credit that for at least another $10 Million in cash? It had a production budget of $150 Million, so my boss isn't real happy right now.
Teller: I'm sorry, we only take cash or checks on corporate accounts.
Sharp Pencil Guy: I forgot to mention the Sacramento Bee called the film "pleasant and colorful". That's gotta be worth something, right?
Teller: Just cash or checks at this window, sir. You might try one of those online crypto places? FTX?

If you bothered to read my post or do your own research, you would realize that all reviews are not in yet. It was as high as 85% today…currently at 72%. Could change for better or worse as new reviews come in. Once again, I have absolutely no idea why a supposed Disney fan is rooting for a Disney film to fail. I mean, I know why the phobes want it to fail, but you claim to be part of the community. Don’t get it, at all.

Is an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score worth more at the Bank of America deposit window? The teller said cash or checks only, remember.

I ask this honestly... is there a 2SLGBTQQIA+ character in Strange World? Or am I reading your text wrong there?

If there is a 2SLGBTQQIA+ character in Strange World, who is it? And why? How does it improve the plot and story over having that character be straight or simply not mention their sexuality at all? In a film marketed at children and families, that's risky. I haven't heard anything about there being a Gay in Strange World in the media, but then I haven't heard anything about Strange World at all in the media. Disney seems to have already cut their losses and abandoned all marketing for it.

I don't want any Disney produced film to fail. I want to see Disney succeed. I mean, I sold the last of my DIS stock many months ago, so I don't care financially any longer. But I do still care as a longtime fan of the product and brand.

I want Disney to make blockbuster animation films released at Christmas that American families willingly will shell out 15 bucks apiece to go see together and get that Disney experience as generations of Americans have before them. This world needs that kind of thing now more than ever. :)

What exactly is a “2SLGBTQQIA+” character? Are you just trying to be offensive again?

It's the approved acronym that the kids use now.

You're younger than me, but try and keep up. ;)

2S = Two Spirit (Makes more sense West of the Rockies. It'll get to the East Coast eventually.)
L = Hello, ladies!
G = Gaaaaaayyyyyy!
B = But only after three beers.
T = Transgender. Duh.
Q = Queer? (I think. I have no idea what that might mean operationally, however.)
Q = Questioning? (I think. Probably related to the B after three beers, the morning after.)
I = Intersex (The mind boggles, and this is a family site, so just let that one go.)
A = Androgynous? (I think. I may be wrong. It's probably one of those things only college kids know.)
+ = Everyone else! Up With People!

Ethan Clade is the character in question, the youngest of the Clades.

Based on the description sounds like its just a crush - don't see the issue 🤷‍♂️

Yup-you’re just st being offensive again, as suspected.

Oh, that's it! I knew Androgynous wasn't quite right, but my old brain couldn't think of what other options might be out there. At least after someone's had three beers.

Ah, okay.

You and I don't see the issue, but it's risky when you are trying to get an American family of four in Boise or Bangor or Birmingham to lay out $60 to go see a kids movie on Thanksgiving weekend.

Did it strengthen the story and advance the plot? Or was it just added to look cool to people who don't actually buy tickets to Disney family movies?
