'Strange World' Disney's 2022 Animated Film

Strange World has a 2SLGBTQQIA+ character in it.

My opinion is that is risky when making a Disney animated movie aimed at American families with young children.

It also impacts where the movie can be released overseas. As Lightyear showed, it prevents the movie from being released in Arab countries, the Palestinian territories, or Communist China.

It limits the financial success of the movie, so it better be darn well important to the plot and not just added by HR to look hip.
Do you hear yourself? There was just a massacre at a gay bar in Colorado. Gay representation matters now more than ever before. You seem to be saying that the film should not feature a gay character. Why not??????

What in holy hell do any of your past several posts have to do with this movie?

Also, this appears to be the big budget Disney family animation released for Christmas that has no marketing whatsoever! So what else is there to talk about?

That‘s the real story here. Burbank seems to have abandoned Strange World from a marketing and merchandising perspective. Weird!

In a children’s cartoon movie, I find it a questionable business decision.

I await the box office returns later this week. :)
A "cartoon" is "Tom & Jerry". This is an animated motion picture feature.

If only "business decisions" were made, we would be in the dark ages culturally right now. At some point, people need to have courage enough to display the world the way it is. Not just straight white characters.

It's the approved acronym that the kids use now.

You're younger than me, but try and keep up. ;)

2S = Two Spirit (Makes more sense West of the Rockies. It'll get to the East Coast eventually.)
L = Hello, ladies!
G = Gaaaaaayyyyyy!
B = But only after three beers.
T = Transgender. Duh.
Q = Queer? (I think. I have no idea what that might mean operationally, however.)
Q = Questioning? (I think. Probably related to the B after three beers, the morning after.)
I = Intersex (The mind boggles, and this is a family site, so just let that one go.)
A = Androgynous? (I think. I may be wrong. It's probably one of those things only college kids know.)
+ = Everyone else! Up With People!
Wow….I have Seen bigoted comments on this site, but this one takes the cake

Aside from confusing the Asexual A for an Androgynous A, it’s actually a rather concise explanation.

Surprisingly, Buddy didn’t know what it meant, so I helped educate him. You are also welcome to educate yourself on 2SLGBTQQIA+
representation.

In the meantime, we await the box office returns for Strange World! :D

Believe me, I do not take ANY education from you.

What exactly is a “2SLGBTQQIA+” character? Are you just trying to be offensive again?
Even I knew this one because Prime Minister Trudeau used it last year and it made the papers.

I wish the movement would just simplify it to LGBT+, everyone knows who it represents but the constant changes make it impossible to keep up with the current letters.

Most people under 30, who are infamously humorless, won’t allow it.

A year from now 2SLGBTQQIA+ will have more symbols and letters added. Five years from now, it will require entirely different keyboards.

In the meantime, there’s still a 2SLGBTQQIA+ character in Strange World. Will that help the box office numbers Burbank desperately needs in its current tumult and financial distress? We’ll know in a week.

He claims to be gay and yet posts crap like this. I suppose it is possible he is Milo Yiannopoulos.

One of my best friends is gay and he belittles drag queens and cross dressers more than anyone I know, he thinks it makes it harder for “normal” gay people to be seen as normal.

I have no idea if TP is telling the truth or not but he wouldn’t be the only gay person who thinks the movement hurts itself by some of its choices. Using the whole alphabet and confusing everyone is a good example of setting yourself up for a bit of mockery.

I watched a news report about the Colorado tragedy yesterday and it included an interview with a drag queen in kabuki makeup and a huge pink wig from San Francisco, my first thought was Carlos is probably screaming at his TV right now. Is a drag queen from SF really necessary in a news story in LV? We have a huge gay community here, they could have easily found a local vigil but it wouldn’t have had the same shock value as a huge drag queen in bizarre makeup from SF.

Edited to get back on subject, as long as the LGBT+ character makes sense in the story I’m all for it. Nearly everyone knows gay people, had the Lightyear thing not been a news story I doubt most people would have given it a second thought, it would have just been two parents, no controversy needed.

By the way TP2000…if you say Strange World is a kids movie…did you ever think of the Kids who are adopted and have 2 dads or 2 moms….maybe they would like to see their families on screen

Really he is gay??? That would be very surprising

I just had to double check how long I'd been here. October 11th, 2003 as it turns out. And in that span of 19 years, it's been nothing but gay from me.... Bitchy comments, cocktail analogies, clothing choice takedowns of the straight Disney execs, Auntie Mame references, Paul Lynde in the Center Square GIF's, random mentions of Tony Baxter appearances at gentlemen's cocktail parties in the Anaheim Hills, etc., etc., etc. Gay, gay, gay. Gaaaaayyyy!

My only question is, how could you not know? But if you think I'm straight, I only wish my Mom was still alive to see this. She'd be so happy! 🤣

Time for me to join Paul Lynde in the great center square in the sky.

The Center Square is taken, and I'm his understudy. So get your own square!

The lower left square might still be available?

I have dear friends in Rancho Mirage who fit that bill exactly, so it's funny you mention it.

They have two sons via surrogate mother up in Portland. Dad 1 (who I've known for decades) was in the Navy and is the butch one and now a very successful doctor. Dad 2 is a medical industry senior executive and takes the role of Mom for the most part.

As most gay parents do, they live a very comfortable lifestyle. They want for nothing.

But I also know that they make up less than 1% of movie going audiences for family films in this country. The Walt Disney Company is not a social service agency, it's a private company that must create profits for its investors and financial stability for it's 150,000+ employees.

Unless someone can explain why it was imperative to the plot and story development that the son in Strange World was 2SLGBTQQIA+, I must assume it was for no other reason than to look cool to a minority of people who rarely buy tickets to Disney family cartoon movies at Christmas.

It's like all the humorless white ladies in the HR departments and Faculty Lounges of America who suddenly decided to call Latinos "Latinx". Without asking. Or without any good reason culturally or pheonetically. Because they are better people than you and I and can dictate what a minority calls itself for its own good. Like the kind and loving dictators that they are.

Until the actual Latinos said "What the...????" and they finally had to back down.

Latinx. 2SLGBTQQIAA+. Same thing, the peasants will obey us. Right?

I would like to know why the son in this three-generation family adventure story needs to have a crush on a same-sex friend and how that advances the plot and helps the storyline. No one seems to have explained that yet.

Luckily, absolutely no one in American media is talking about Strange World. It's been abandoned not just in the toy aisles at Target, but on the commercial airwaves and bandwidth in America. So I guess the good news is that the son in Strange World could have an obsessive relationship with that Splat gelatinous creature and it would still fly under the radar?

The gelatinous community would feel represented and seen at least.
