STGRhost, that's such a sweet story.

I've overhear the standard "Where's the bathroom?" (Right behind you, you nitwit) and "When's the ___PM parade?" (At midnight)

WOW! Whata great story!! Brought tears to my eyes... this is what the Disney Magic is all about, its reassuring to know that they are still CM's that care enough to go the extra mile. Good for you!!

When you spend your day getting yelled at for things that aren't your fault, it's hard to keep things in perspective. That's why I say "I live for these guests", because without them, I would have given up on the whole thing years ago... I like knowing that there really is magic around here as long as you know how to find it.:sohappy:

Exactly! As a bus driver, there really isn't a whole lot I can do for folks... On the way back to the resort during a park exit, I'll do a whole routine that guests love... it's great to have guests get off my bus telling me they enjoyed thier ride, and whatnot. I've even gotten the privledge of signing a few autograph books, and being in a few pictures. But the best one... a family gave me this card that I keep with me at all times... it says (to the effect of), "Thank you for making our vacation Magical." It has a picture of tinkerbell, and the families name and hometown. I nearly cried when I saw it... I do a lot of courtesy runs... like, for example, I pick someone up at the All Stars, and they're trying to get to the Hoop Dee Doo... so I take them directly... things like that... and often times, people try to tip me... I always politly decline, telling them it was my pleasure... I think, a far greater reward though was that card... :)

Tyler, you are part of the reason why we all look forward to coming to WDW. Most of the time, there is something special about Disney from the moment you enter the property. Thanks for a great post.

*sniffles* I'm really missing being a cast member right now. It's the magic that makes the people who work for disney and love it keep working there even between all the guest problems.. (I've been yelled at cause I couldnt' answer a question at AA even after I told the guest I would find someone that COULD answer it, I've been harassed at Pin Central... but I've also seen a little girl smile when I put the tiara on her that she bought, seen different people take pictures in crazy hats at the hat cart, talk to tons of guests from different countries about the pins they are trading (I love the nice ones lol) and watched children light up when they are watching tapastry and a puppet waves at them.)

I've had days when the guests made me end up in the break room crying but all the guests that were so happy and so polite are the ones that make my internship so great and they are why I really miss working for the company.

Okay I think I've rambled enough :).

well lemme tell you something...
from the customer's perspecive (as I am going to disney this summer ...have I mentioned that enough yet lol)
sometimes it is nice when you just get a little extra that you never thought you'd get...
my phone at home doesn't allow long distance calls....so to book my reservations ..i had to use a cell phone the fist person i talked to was really slow and it took almost half an hour and i think she used the wrong code or something because the price for the room was wonky ... then her computer went crazy and she had to reenter my info ...more minutes ticked by then joy my phone cut out.
i didn't know if the reservation went through.
so the next I bought more airtime and called again and got Rocko
and he quoted me a price 200 dollars lower he filled in the info and he got my deposit but my phone was cutting in and out i mentioned i was on cell phone and it was probably gonna go at any minute then it lost signal.
So I tried to call back...while i was doing that my home phone rang and it was rocko...he called ME BACK!!! that made my day
just because I didn't expect it to happen...

it made me happy and i didn't have to get whiney and complain
btw
i love you rocko wherever you are

:king: Fantasia Boi and STGRhost, you guys are the type of cast members that make wdw so magical. :king:

I've seen other drivers out there that make the ride around WDW so much fun! It make the drive time pass so much faster. I could only imagine having my family driving a car around WDW and getting lost...leading to a family argument in the car. With you driving, you're doing the driving and saving my family from a crazy arguement. Plus how you help guests out to other places...I'm sure they're pretty happy you saved em so much time. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SERVICE, YOU ROCK!!!

STGRhost you're a TRUE cast member (as is Fantasia Boi). Stories like yours make me so happy to hear that there's cast members out there who actually care!! Great job. If we were still part of the company I'd give you a 5 star award!! You truely deserved it!!!!

Guest service at its best!!! :sohappy:

Personally, this is the type of service I love to do! This is the main reason I REALLY want to head back down south. Guest service like this is what I love about Disney!!!

But I was glad he did, because the woman would just not listen to reason, and we offered her damn near anything, just so she would SHUT UP... I love the job usually, but sometimes....

I would... that's why I work entertainment, I give out my own special brand of guest service (always good, always my own)

sigh.. here's the difference between good guest service, and being managements bee-atch...

1A-to provide good guest service, you must be willing to see things from the guests' perspective

2B-to be managements bee-atch, send the guest to guest relations. Eventually, enough CM's will have pawned them off to GR. That's what they're there for, isn't it?

that's just 1 example... when I deal w/ a guest, as much as I will be a wiseass (all in good humor), I will do my best to solve their problem without involving any other parties. CM's who habitually send guests away to GR or their management, have no clue how to provide excellent guest service, and need to be gone from WDW... just my opinion though

If I ever see you at WDW rob, Im gonna go up to you and ask when the three O'Clock parade is.:D (J/K) But there are some very weird questions that are asked. I think that some people never look at the map or dont get one.

isn't it gonna be kinda hard to ask me what time a parade is, IF I'M PERFORMING IN IT... lol.. or driving a float (lets see you try to ask me then!)...

I'm one of the hardest people to spot at WDW. I think there's been 1 spotting of me aside from a planned meet... and it was very random. At the main street barber shop while I was getting my hair cut, this gentleman asks me if I'm mktiggerman, and he identifies himself as a reader/MINOR, very MINOR poster, and that I was one of the reasons he came back to read WDWMagic... it gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling... then I entered reality

Agree. Exactly, totally....nail-on-the-head.
OH. MY. WORD. If I could tell y'all the number of guests who make it all the way to the GR lobby and tell us there story, and have us either fix it easily, or not be able to fix it at all, and just look at us and say "Well, what did they send us HERE for?" Truthfully, the CMs who send guests to Guest Relations are usually either lazy, or ignorant (in that they don't know that they are almost as empowered as we are to do guest recovery). So many situations could be solved so simply, in the area they happen in. Instead, the guest is told they can't be helped, and then sent (usually a looong walk) to the front of the park, getting more upset with every step. Grrr...this is our biggest problem.
We had tried, at one time, to start a sort-of training program, where we would go to different areas in the park to educate (or just remind them) of the various guest recovery resources they have available to them. Not suprisingly, our managment decided they didn't have the budget for it... Oh, well, job security, I guess. Funny, because among CMs, GR gets a reputation for being snobby or elitist, when really, we're only there to fix everyone else's mistakes... (Which, okay, DOES sound elitist, but isn't meant to be)

K- I'm back now...so about the bug in the drink - it was in DH's hot chocolate at MVMCP. You know the glop that's in the bottom of instant hot chocolate? That's what he thought it was until he spit it out. Of course we did not go off on the first available CM (or anyone else really)...we've both worked in the food service industry ....I just thought the situation could have been handled a bit better...it was pretty gross!

And Fantasia Boi - at 21 you'd already been in retail for 7 yrs? Bless your heart for having to work at such a young age- I feel for you!

two things, first off the stupidest thing I ever heard from a guest was when I worked Food and Wine 2k. Australa booth, Fosters wait why dont you have fosters.

I'd reply with "Well this is a Food and Wine festival, there are many great beers in the beer tent however fosters was not involved since this is a wine festival."

then they shook there heads

my fav guest memory is when I worked for Le Cellar as a pantry chef, I ran a kids in the kitchen with 2 young childern who wanted to make a desert, I showed them step by step and they followed along after the demo, about 3 hrs later I left and walked through the park to go home, the two childern came up to me (It was chance that they were walking out of the park at the same time) and asked me for my autograph I was so touched.

When I was a freshman... I went to a brand new HS... and I was part of the team that created our school store, The Scratching Post. (Our mascot was the Saber Toothed Tiger). At any rate... by the end of my freshman year, I became the manager, and over the course of my four years there, I turned that little closet into a profitable $50,000+ a year business. (Our original location was a little closet, with a "Drive Thru Window" type door. My Senior year, we moved to a larger walk-in room... probably about 180sqft.) We sold almost everything there. A complete line of brand name Saber apparel and hats... school supplies, greeting cards, a full line of breakfast foods and beverages, soda, snacks, mugs, pottery, gifts, trinkets, and many other things. I had so much fun... I think I spent more time in that store, than in classes... lol... it all paid off too, the store ended up giving me a nice scholarship for college. :)

The only things I send people to Guest Relations for is lost items we know we don't have anywhere, ticket issues and situations the guest may bring up concerning service at another location.

Which GS are ya at Gracy?
