Storybook Circus Discussion

Had a question/thought about Storybook Circus that's coming--

First of all, today there was talk about our state fair coming next week and I thought of how I don't like them because of all those games where they try to rip you off and remembered how I like Disney so much because they don't have these there (except Dinoland of course).

Then this got me thinking about the new Storybook Circus area and I'm hoping there hasn't been any talk of Disney putting games in there is there? I saw there was talk early in the thread about another tent too and I'm really hoping there won't be games in this area!

Games a la Chester and Hester would be tacky, and yet I never minded putting coins in the Shooting Gallery in Frontierland, which was in keeping with theme. The idea of being nickeled and dimed in Storybook Circus shouldn't concern anyone -- there's no obligation to play those games.

And for any purists out there wishing to dis the circus theme, do your homework and learn that it was one of the original ideas for DL to be located behind Main Street at the suggestion of Walt himself. People seem to equate a circus with the lowest common denominator of human entertainment, but in Disney's hands it will be enjoyable. Two Dumbos, a newly themed Goofini, a M&G, a souvenir tent, a new train station, and still a third tent with an unknown purpose in the back... I wouldn't have done much in PH, but I'll definitely do something here.

The circus theme predates the mine coaster, and would have been there even if the original plan had remained.
They chose curcus because of it being a family-friendly theme and would allow for them to move and double Dumbo. The circus tents are the only offspring of the mine ride. Scrapping the pixie area and keeping the tents helped pay for it.

Wasn't circusland one of Walt's original idea's for Disneyland? I thought I read somewhere that it was supposed to be focused on Dumbo and Pinocchio...I could see why they would want to pay an homage to his vision. Personally I like the idea alot more than the area they just shut down.

Almost every early incarnation of Disneyland, even from back in the days when it was just going to be a small park across the street from the studios, had some sort of circus element to it. From the earliest designs, through the early Ryman and Ellenshaw concepts, to the abandoned Circusland and the actual live Mickey Mouse Club Circus that was at Disneyland in the 1950's.
It is not a new idea to have such a theme in a Disney park.

IMO if they are planning to do some form of midway games in Storybook Circus I hope instead of the silly stuffed animals they give away in DinoRama
and along the Boardwalk that they do actual Disney themed characters.

The crucial bit though is that in the end, Walt decided to not put a circus in DL. ;)

A decision which Walt never regretted. Circusses are not up to Disney's standards, Walt had stumbled upon a formula that was two steps ahead of circus amusement.
I wish they wouldn't build a circusland in Disney. Blegh. :hurl:

Don't knock it until you see it for yourself.

There's always a possibility that you may be pleasantly surprised to the point where you'll actually feel obligated to take back what you just said. :D

Major differences between a "pretend" Dumbo circus and a Carnival. I like the idea, sort of bringing some classic Disney characters to the spotlight.

But he did put a circus into DL. Problem was it was a big failure between accidents and low attendance

I would love to have to eat my words. :slurp:

However, between the two previous disaster zones that was the carnival area in DCA and is Dinorama in DAK, one would have hoped WDI would've given up on the theme of 'cheap tents and carnival games themed as cheap tents and carnival games'.

New stuff, sorry no pics.
They have a good portion of the structural steel for the "arms" of Dumbo's tent built as of today. This is the smaller part that partially surrounds the dueling dumbos.

Does anyone know what exactly will be in Dumbo's Circus tent? Will there be AA's or what? Are they still going with the "no queue" concept?

Unless something has changed it's still planned to be the "no queue" queue area that will have games kids can play while waiting to ride.

I'm still not sure how/how well that's gonna work.
The plans I have don't give any details beyond the east entrance being Fastpass and bypassing the main tent/NextGen queue.
