Why announce this as a 14 acre project to begin with, people I have talked to in the past said this was 14 acres built upon when the land opened. Meh. Thanks @marni1971

Because 14 acres is being taken over for SWL... attractions, shops, restaurants, scenery, berms, backstage. Those 14 acres aren't in use for anything else. So, SWL is 14 acres of overall development.

Same with TSL. The land that is currently under construction plus TSM is 11 acres, which includes backstage and scenery.

The D23 announcement was that SWL is 14 acres and TSL is 11 acres and that's what is the case. I guess they weren't very specific by saying "14 acres of land set aside for SWL with 10 acres worth of guest-accessible attractions and shows."

Sorry... I guess space taken by berms is another discussion if it should be included or not. I'll leave that one to others to argue over! I also believe this would be the first area to be used for expansion purposes as and when another attraction is considered. There's a proposal - and only a proposal - to add something eventually to the south but that's a discussion for another time.

Of the ten acres left I'd say around half is guest accessible not including the show buildings.

A discussion for another time? I see what you did there.

Just for perspective, how many acres is Pandora?

No I talked with several people in the company. They believed for what it was worth it was 14 acres including shops, F+B and attractions that it was guest space not including backstage areas.

I'm not as sure of the final boundaries of Pandora as for SWL or TSL, but, about 8.5 - 9.0 acres. They squeeze in their two rides into one giant show building for economy of space. Also, this isn't counting the floating islands.

Well, then, when they secretly cut back both TSL and SWL into less space, they covered up their tracks by creating exactly 11 and 14 acres of construction. That's genius level deviousness.

I think this discussion is semantics. There is going to be a substantial berm built to "hide" Star Wars from the rest of the park. The 14 acres includes the actual land + the berm. Technically, since the berm is not part of the land, the land is "less than" the 14 acres but the berm and the illusion it creates is an important part of the construction of the land.

There was never any chance that "14 acres" was the size of guest accessible space. I would consider the berm to be as much a part of the land as the backstage vehicle maintenance building; if others want to calculate it differently, that's fine.

Unless I'm missing something, no one is saying that the land is any smaller/different than what was announced and planned at 2015 D23. It hasn't been cut back to a smaller size -- only that the 14 acres could be considered misleading because it incorporates a lot of stuff, not just the rides/merch/food/walkways.

You're not the only one. Fingers crossed it never happens.
...count me into this thinking as well. I can see a design of over sized candy coming off looking chunky and a bit on the cheap and cheesy side. I agree with the poster a few up about needing a slow dark ride in TL, hopefully something "Incredible" will come (see what I did there)*. I'm also not concerned with a transition to FL as many are, mostly because I think ANYTHING will work better than the speedway. If it's an enclosed dark ride, seems like a rather simple opportunity to create a more subtle divide with appropriate shrubs/props as a gateway to and fro each land.

*I'm not an insider. Just sayin stuff.

wouldn't Tron just feel like "yet another spacemountain"?
There arent real slow dark rides in tomorrowland. Why not that instead yet another coaster?
Then you rebuild Space Mountain from the ground up in Epcot.

Imagine a new Space Mountain constructed next to Mission: SPACE. Inside the dome you've got a Shanghai style Orbitron spinner with the coaster also running around it.

I like space mountain in Tomorrowland where it belongs, poor thing needs a year + refurb at this point with all the damage it's been through.

My counter argument to that is for Disney to clearly define what belongs in Tomorrowland and what belongs in Future World. My personal opinion is a simple delineation: IPs in Tomorrowland, non-IPs in Future World. I'd move Space Mountain and Carousel of Progress to Epcot and overhaul Tomorrowland with futuristic Disney IPs that could include the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy, Buzz Lightyear, Big Hero 6, Wreck it Ralph (although that's more fantasy), and potentially others.

Again, I'm no expert, but I get the sense through Martin's posts and a few others that there will be a separation (or a difference) between TL and FW, in concept and aesthetics in the near-ish future.
