I agree. FJ does a fantastic job with the queue, and the ride is great. However, the ride is a bit too herky-jerky, doesn't make the transitions to and from the screens that smooth, and the practical effects of the spiders and dementors is a bit cheesy (so many spiders that are static, or, are just obviously lowered on a string). I roll my eyes a bit at the lifelessness of the practical effects.
SM's queue doesn't have nearly the depth of FJ, but it doesn't have to. It's an animated/comic book worlds and a lot of the details don't need to be filled in. But the SM ride is smooth, has great transitions, and the practical effects are OK (the truck and the moving windows). The real kick that SM has is that people scream at the illusion of vaulting over a skyscraper and plummeting to the ground. The ride itself is only being lowered a few yards, but the illusion works so good.
