Pretty freaky looking. Sad to see a good AA gone but then again they can always reskin it into something else.

Also, my reaction to this attraction being dead:

And to dive deeper into the source:
"It’s actually not my photo. Friend texted it to me this morning. Looks like it’s from the tear down."

We're going to WDW later this month for the first time since 2013, and we didn't get to experience this attraction then. I actually wasn't sure if it was still in operation or not. Oh well, I never got to experience it! I was only in that space when it was the Alien attraction - whatever that was called - back in 2000.

BTW, anyone know what was in that space in the mid 70s? Is that where If You Had Wings was? I rode that MANY times back then, all in one visit.

Flight to the Moon from December 1971.
Then Mission to Mars from July 1975.
Then Alien Encounter from December 1994 (version one) or June 1995 (version two)

If You Had Wings became If You Could Fly which became Dreamflight which became Take Flight...
Which became Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin.

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin in is the former If You Had Wings/Dreamflight space. In fact, the ride layout hasn't changed over the years.

Doesn't stitch have 2 theaters? Maybe they're just stripping down one of the theaters to use as parts for the second one just in case they need to reopen for the Holidays?

That's what I was thinking as well. Keep one theater open while dismantaling the other.

Though with attendance so far this season, they may see that there's no need to open any stitch theater back up. Complete gutting may ensue.

Like Glacier said, yes it does.

Fun fact my friend and I found out when every single seat was taken, the countdown doesn't stop. Still hunting around at the 10 second mark (trying to find single seats), a CM grabbed us and took us into the holding area between the two theaters. With the exits closed and the lighting starting to go into show mode, we were actually confused where we could go. That CM also hated the attraction.

Animatronics are going the way of the DoDo Bird...
Universal said the FF "ride" is going to be their last major screen attraction. We'll see if that holds true for the new HP coaster.

No they aren't. Three of the most popular attractions built recently use animatronics. Frozen, 7DMT, Na'vi River Cruise. Frozen, alone, has a ton of them.
Fair, but I think going forward we will be seeing more hybrids of screens/minimal if any animatronics vs. heavily themed sets with hundreds of animontroncis ala Horizons/World of Motion. Just a thought from my perspective. Disney will still use AA's but just not in the way the older attractions used them.

Is it too late for Disney to acquire the rights to Gremlins?

both!!!! throw in some baymax while youre at it. The dark area of people mover could be picture boxes of scenes. You could even have fox in the hound.

or do none of that and maybe do something like history of tommorowland etc or just show martins videos throughout the thing....

Collector's Museum isn't the theme of the Epcot Guardians attraction. Instead they're basing it around Nova Corps and presenting it as Xandar's "World Showcase Pavilion that's not actually in World Showcase".

how do you fund a pavillion if your entire planet was destroyed and your precious nova core likely obliterated in the process? odd.

Oh, I agree that it's doubtful we'll see them used ever again to the extent that they were in the past. That kind of peaked with the opening of EPCOT Center. The Great Movie Ride was kind of a last gasp for attractions with a ton of AA figures. Even with the advent of screens, though, I don't see them completely taking over. People don't build the same attachment to entirely screen-based attractions that they do with something tangible. I think we'll eventually see both Disney and Universal find a balance between the practical and the virtual. They can work very well together.

There has to be a good balance for sure. There are certain elements of Nav'i River that seem to scratch the surface towards the tail end of the ride with the awesome AA and some well placed screens.
