I loved AE, but I was an adult when I experienced it. I do have to say that the way they modulated Tim Curry's voice (they really accentuated the bass) made it very disturbing, even to me. I don't think that can come across in a video, unfortunately. The first time I went on it, I wasn't prepared for the shoulder harness and it did kind of hurt as I must have been sitting strangely and it came down too far. When the alien "landed" on my shoulders, I definitely got the full brunt of it. Subsequent times, I was prepared for it and sat up straight as it was coming down. The surround audio used in AE was among the best I've every heard and the actual alien AA figure was spectacular.

The first time I went back to the MK after Stitch came in, I went on it with a friend who works at Disney. He said, "I'm not going to tell you anything about the attraction, but I want to get a picture of you before and after you go in." When we came out, he was laughing his butt off as he took the picture of my crestfallen face. It was the only time I ever went in. I'm glad it's gone.

I really would like to see The Incredibles attraction in Tomorrowland to replace Stitch's Great Escape in Walt Disney World Tomorrowland for the 50th birthday of WDW!.

I blame alien encounter's failure on a lot of things, but I think the ultimate nail in the coffin was the poor advertising. First of all, there doesn't seem to be a lot of ads for the ride, and the ones that do exist either don't go into full detail about how scary the ride is or are kind of misleading.
Example of kind of misleading: regis

That... was definitely something.

If they replaced SGE with the incredibles do you guys think it would be based just off the first movie, the second movie, or both?

Did the restraints push hard on Alien Encounter? Maybe that’s how it was perceived as “too scary”.

At one point in AE, an employee was literally murdered in the catwalks above you by the alien. You sat in darkness and watched the build-up to it happening in agonizing suspense from a camera feed on his helmet as you heard his footsteps above you (a live cast member had this role). Oh, and then his blood splashed on you when the alien finally appeared and ate him. Again, in the darkness.

The restraints were far being from the scariest part of the attraction.

I say second because it would count as free advertising for the new movie (or new-ish depending on when it opens) and because incredicoaster's story follows the incredibles 2's plot involving the family discovering jack-jack's powers. I could imagine jack jack burning up into a flame, causing the power to cut out in the room some how and air effects to give the illusion that he is bouncing across the wall and the other incredibles are trying to catch him.
It's genius now I think about it. If disney isn't thinking about this option, I don't know what they are thinking about (hopefully alien encounter related, but that will probably never happen).
EDIT: I'm totally gonna make a imagineering thread on this idea now.
EDIT 2: Done

This is genius. Kids shouldn't be too freaked out by a baby.

Although, did they rip out the Alien/Stitch SFX equipment already?

And now I've discovered the Imagineer forum. There goes my morning.

Hey, aliens have the right to snacks at Disney, too. Key question -- was that worker included on the Disney Dining Plan or not?

Very rarely do harnesses ever make me feel uncomfortable, but I agree with this for SGE. I didn't do AE since I had half a brain to acknowledge it was a terrifying attraction and I was young when it was open. I did SGE a couple years ago and the one thing that freaked me out was how much the harnesses push down on you. Well that and how terrible the attraction was. I can't imagine the harnesses make it very kid friendly.

One way WDI could somewhat counter this is by having the guests pull down on the harnesses. I think having guests pull them down vs them coming down automatically would give guests control and a sense of security they wouldn't otherwise have normally. I'm sure the harnesses coming down automatically gave some guests anxiety or a sense of mild claustrophobia.
