SOARIN'
New footage for Soarin' has been made - OVER Walt Disney World! This is so that the Disneyland scene at the end of DCA's version can be fixed to use Walt Disney World. This explains the helicopters over the resort within the past month. The "Soarin'" film from DCA will be temporary only; a new film is scheduled to replace it in a few years time.

I noticed those helicopters... but it never hit me until I started to read the beginning of this that the 'copters MIGHT have some connection to Soarin', especially since ALL the helicopters I saw were definately under 3,000 feet...

Knew it was Disney doing something and that it wasn't a sightseeing tour, but sometimes I just can't put 2 and 2 together...

Haha...it's funny. Patrick and I were commenting to each other all week about all the helicopters around the Resort, and I said, "I guess only Disney can break their own flight restrictions". Now it all makes sense to me:) Maybe Patrick and I will have the extreme fortune of being two of the little dots in the wdw scene:D

The Imagineer's plans never called for a roller coaster - but ANY gutting to the sphere has been cancelled for an indefinite amount of time, and thus, this is why I posted the message.

Yup! We thought it was security.

Is the only update of the ride, on the preshow? Cuz I don't recall Skippy in the actual ride... Heck... I just can't see Stich in the actual ride, it would kill the suspence... But lets see.

I believe it's an update of the entire show. We may lose Skippy, and quite possibly the XS Tech theme. However...I believe Skippy can help the ride be even more scary...he's a dangerous critter (hence beginning of film.) My only MAIN request is Skippy. Skippy MUST stay.

And another thing I was going to ask...
If is has the green light, it must be something good right??

Not necessarily... ;) ...but we'll see. The show may be ready for visitors by early 2004 .

We are supposed to be losing everything according to all of the CM's I talked to. S.I.R., XS-Tech, Skippy, The Alien, etc.... are all supposed to go.

But here is what I don't understand. You were saying how Skippy can make the ride more scary. I thought this was THE ONLY reason AE was being replaced. They were tired of the complaints of all the scared little kids (that shouldn't have been in there to begin with but don't get me started on that). Everything I've been hearing is that there will be no more scare factor and this will be totally aimed for children (it's not like they have enough at the MK to begin with but don't get me started on that either  )

But of course you seem to know a higher up so maybe this change won't be a total disgrace after all (but I highly doubt it).

I am so glad SE has gotten a reprieve from the WDI. As for AE...I am getting more upset by the day. I love it, my kids love it and they haven't always. I can remember when my younger son was so afraid of it. Now Skippy is his favorite character and has more Skippy junk in his room then I care to even look at. AE should be left alone. There are posted scare warnings, you don't like to be scared, don't go, but leave us AE lovers alone. As for Soarin', I have never been to DL so I can't say much. I did however experience the low flying helicopters also and was curious. I would like something like this to bring people back to that side of EPCOT. I loved KK and get a kick out of FR and I would hate to see this show go to the tomb. They say that change is good. SO we shall see, but c'mon, we know change isn't always good. (In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room.)

What? Getting rid of SIR??????????????????

That Animatronic is too well-done! There must be some mistake...that or Disney REALLY wants to cut down? (??)

My fault I didn't explain well enough. Sorry about that. The CM's told me that the character of S.I.R. would be gone but the animatronic would still be there but would be a policeman (just a rumor on the whole policeman thing). But of course this is CM info. But I really think that the character of S.I.R. will be too sinister for the 4 and 5 year old that will soon be all over the new attraction anyways. I think we'll see as many changes to the preshows than the main chambers. Man this kills me to talk about the demise of my favorite show

I'm glad that no major rehab will be done to Spaceship Earth (eventhough I want to see some new things in the attraction in the future)...I hate the whole Stitch in AE idea...I hope the ride is still good when all is said and done....

As for Soarin....I personally keep thinkin that it will stand alone and in no way connect to THE LAND...as for the film...I really don't care what they use at first as long as they stick in a new film after about a year or so....

Just my opinion. Thanks for the update. :hammer:

The Tiki Room change is really what worries me about Stitch Encounter. But the difference between the original Tiki Room and Alien Encounter is (no matter how much us Disney faithful loved the Tiki Room) AE is much more popular with the occasional guests than the Tiki Room was. And while the original Tiki Room really started to show its age later on in its life, AE still seems fresh and new (even though it could use a rehab).

When is AE supposed to open with the new Stitch stuff? How long should this abomination take to make?

So they are probably trying to have it ready by December, that seems like a fast turn around ... I hope they don't rush and make a sub-par re-do.

It's funny that...

I read somewhere when AE opened that it was the most expensive and technologically advance ride WDW had ever created and now they are thinking of gutting it? it hasn't even been opened 10 years! I can think of a lot of other rides that could be totally gutted: God forgive me for saying this but COP, hall of presidents :snore: , Universe of Energy (bring back the orginial) , etc. I just don't understand why parents don't read the warning signs on the rides and force their kids to go on rides like that. I swear some people just shouldn't have kids! Don't torture your kids like that because YOU want to go on the ride. It's like them buying a plane ticket and then later complaining to the pilot that they were so far off of the ground because they are afraid of heights. COME ON PEOPLE SMARTEN UP! Ok that's all I have to say :D

sadly, I don't know how to work in code, so I can't help you there...as for Alien Encounter...seems people either love it or have no real feelings toward it. I would be in the latter group--I don't hate it, but I didn't bother seeing it this trip. It's nothing special to me. At least with this rehab we may finally see all of the broken effects working again (half the times I rode, the tongue effect didn't work). I guess with PhilharMagic opening, we will have a new multi-sensory thriller in the Magic Kingdom, so the old Alien Encounter can fade off into the sunset...the attraction doesn't have to be scary to be fun (I would much rather see Stitch flying around the room than experience the current "are you afraid of the dark" attraction)

AE is not being gutted...but can you explain why people "shouldn't have kids?" Is this because parents take kids on AE? Or is it because parents take kids on your so called "lame attractions?"

Thanks

seems people either love it

That would be me! Honestly, I've never noticed any of the special effects not working. The last time we were on, one of the video screens on the wall was out, but otherwise, it's always been a great experience -- we do it almost every trip (though not as scary as the first time). I love horror movies, so this attraction was definitely meant for me. I'll be sad if it is turned into a "kids attraction" -- I like that there are some things at Disney that aren't for the faint of heart. But if they're going to do it, I hope it's done before Christmas so we can see what the changes are like first hand in January.

I think it is interesting to hear the closure of AE may be really soon. Why? Well, because when I saw it two days ago the cast members were unusually adamant that people could NOT use videotaping devices anywhere in the show. I didn't even know this was a rule and have seen people video tape the preshow before with no CM's saying anything. This time however they made a big deal out of the fact that no one could video tape it both in announcments in the queue area and before the pre-show and actual show started. I don't know why, especially if it is closing soon and the only way to preserve it is for someone to tape it. Anyone know why we can't tape it (I had actually wanted to video it because of the Stitch redo rumors, but ,alas, had run out of tape by the time I rode AE)
