Stealth Negative Rep Points

I don't like to give bad rep points AT ALL. The way I see it, if someone writes a bad post, it's probably a one time thing, most often because they're in a bad mood or something bad just happened, so I let it slide. Also, someone else is bound to take away points from them, so I'll leave the job to those people. Otherwise, we have 50,000 thinking they're the only person taking points, when they are only one of the many taking points. I just don't want to do that.

I think that the negative rep points should only be used when someone attacks someone publicly on the boards or makes some kind of racial comment or just makes a malicious comment or post. I dont think that a neg rep point should be given on the basis of differing opinions as everyone has different opinions. Like wannab@dis said if someone feels they just have to comment on what someone has said then leave a reply and state why u disagree.

Im pretty sure ive only had one negative rep point and it was because i had a few typos that meant one post mayb didnt make complete sense. I had posted late one nite and the next day saw the rep so changed it. But that is just an easy mistake that we all make, not worth a negative rep point surely? Thats why i think they should be reserved for serious mis-use of the boards.

I think negative points should be reserved for malicious behavior, not differing opinions or personal dislike. I come online for entertainment, not conflict. :wave:

I agree with your comment. Negative points shouldn't be given for an opinion. We should respect everyone’s opinion whether we agree or not. Since posts don’t have tone of voice or facial expressions, posts can easily be interpreted the wrong way and many different ways.

I think negative rep points are meant to point out when a post is considered rude or tasteless and not for people expressing their opinion. This forum is for people that enjoy sharing, talking and giving their opinions about Disney.

That is why I ended up here. Long time reader, new to posting.

I have only given a handful of negative points, and I think most if not all have been towards members who have since been kicked off the boards.

Differrences of opinion I welcome - diversity makes life far more interesting.

Abusive posts towards a ride I like will not get negative rep from me. It will just show the poster up as having a lack of maturity.

When someone has been abusive towards another member, then I will give negative points.

Pretty soon thats how all things are going to be done in the outside world by rep points. I'll soon be getting them from my teachers instead of test because how i act in school. I will get them from my parents because i did clean the house or i yelled at my brother.. Soon they will be taking over....ahhhh. (BTW I was kidding on that..)

So that means they are going to be reviewing my WDWMagic rep points for my credit rating? Bad enough they're using credit ratings to set car insurance premiums. :lookaroun

Guess if that happens Woody won't be able to even get a credit card :lol: Only joking...but you have to admit, that red bar is pretty hard to miss... :veryconfu

I was just noticing my posts, and wondering if I'm ever going to make it to 1,000 Sorry for the thread drift, but I saw that someone mentioned peoples posts count, and when they did I looked to see what mine was at. I did not even know that we had rep points. I can say that I have an opinion on this but what is the real purpose. Are we to get prizes for a job well done. Or are we to be taken out back for a beating if we are bad.

But then also if someone does not like you for any reason then you might get some negative points. I for one dont care either way except that there should be some sort of standard for it.

You hit the nail on the head as to the reason for my rant...I mean thread...
There is a standard, but unfortunately like everything else here it is voluntary. Where something relies on trust and responsible behavior, there are always those few who abuse the system.

And where better than cyberspace where they can hide and not take responsibility for their sniping, trollishness and general rudeness.

With that said, it's amazing that things hold together and remain as enjoyable as the do most of the time. Goodness eventually wins out i guess.
