Hey everyone!

With my birthday coming up, I usually receive money for gifts. I was just wondering, how far in advance do you save for souviners, and stuff you want to buy at WDW?

I love to spend!

I like have some disorder...I never buy anything at home...but when I get to WDW...it's another story!

My party got kinda upset last year when I maxed the credit card! :lookaroun

In order to make sure that my family doesn't spend their money that is supposed to be for Disney, we get Disney Dollars ahead of time for gifts. That way no one is tempted to spend it on something else.

Right now, my kids are saving for our trip in Nov. 2003. For our last trip they each had over 200.00 of their own money to spend!:sohappy:

I agree with VillianFan - Disney dollars are the way to be sure you're saving for that Disney trip. However, if you don't have a Disney store near you, that won't work.

I have a change jar stashed away in a kitchen cupboard that the rest of the family doesn't know about. Every day, I put all my loose change in it, and a few days before we actually leave, I roll it and head for the bank. You'd be surprised how quickly it mounts up (especially if you do it for months in advance!).

Of course, that takes care of spending money, but air fare and park passes are a different story. I purchase them as far ahead as possible, so that they're paid for way in advance. Disney isn't cheap, but it's worth it.:) I usually begin all of this at least eight months in advance.

this thread is right up my alley! i love saving money more than i like spending it....why? i dunno. i think because one year at WDW i hadn't spent much of my money, so mom and dad for some reason convinced me to spend a little more and enjoy it. i did, and within a day had spent ALL of it, and i still had at least another day in the parks. i was heartbroken when they told me that my 'hard earned' money was completely gone (i like to come home with at least a little bit of what i took) even since then, i have NEVER let them convince me to spend money. in fact, i hardly ever spend it...at home or at WDW, unless i find something that i REALLY like. and even then, i'm a little skeptical about dishing out the money. everyone's alway teasing me about how i never spend money, and how i need to splurge a little more. but i'd just rather save it.
so to answer your question, Erika is right....it's NEVER too early to start saving! me? i'm constantly saving...i start saving just as soon as i get back from a WDW trip (or any other trip for that matter) right now, i think i have over $300...last time i checked, i think it was getting fairly close to $400, though i've been to the Smoky Mountains since i last checked, so who knows what i have now (i actually spent some money there!!) but i think that's pretty darn good, considering i don't have a job!

 LOL! you're certainly right about that! i kinda do the same thing. mom usually gives me at least $2 for lunch everyday, since it costs on avg. $1.25, i bring the $.75 home and put it in a container in my drawer. sometimes mom gets in it though and gets some quarters out for herself, which is fine since it was her money to begin with. but sometimes when a Disney trip comes up, i'll take the money and count it up to see how much is in there. i think one time i had like $24 in quarters! not enough to pay for a heck of a lot in WDW, but it's still $24 extra dollars in my pocket...or whoever takes it!

You just can't start saving soon enough. We returned from WDW in April '01 and I started saving loose change in a big whiskey jar as soon as I got back. You don't miss the small denomination coins and it soon adds up.

I've been keeping an envelope in my car, and all of my spare cahnge (dollars) go there. I've been doing this since April and have saved over $200.00! I have also asked for Disney dollars instead of presents for birthdays, etc.:)

DISNEY DOLLARS . My husband and I give ourselves an allowance of $20 each a week whatever we have left over we put to disney dollars. We are usally so stingy that at the end of the week we still have all of it and we get all to put all of it in our disney fund. I also have a change jar but that is going for our trip to louisiana to see his family

I went in February and bought the 100 years of Magic coin bank and now it's the first of July and it's completely filled with quarters...can't WAIT to count it...I'll be doing that this weekend...and then I'm going to buy Disney Dollars with it.

Well, I am going to WDW in august, and there is no time to save money, now. But I will buy a safe box there (to motivate me) and as soon as I get back, I will start saving for my next trip (december 2003, I want to see the christmas party). As I have to save at least 3.000,00 in my currency to have more or less 1.000,00 dollars, I have to save for more tha a year! But it is worth the sacrifice... I do anything to go to WDW!!!

We are the champions!!!:sohappy:

Kisses from BRAZIL!!!!

Don't sell yourself short on being able to save over what a travel agent can do for you. I have found some terrific resources on the internet that have allowed me to save big bucks on my week long WDW vacation in September 2002. I suggest that you start doing your homework now at a couple of different websites. Check out www.wdwig.com/contents.htm www.mousesavers.com and www.disneydollarless.com all have great money saving info!

Good luck! Mickey
