Star Wars

Anyone planning on getting the original trilogy on DVD? The more I think about it, I feel like I should wait for the eventual 6-pack box edition that's sure to come out some time after Episode III. I mean, this one has the 150-minute feature about the original trilogy, but that could be included in the Ultimate Pack, right? They did it for Alien, they'll probably do it for Luke.

I've got this one pre-ordered. I don't like the first two episodes, so I wouldn't really be interested if a 6 pack came out.

I had been planning on holding off so someone could get it for me for Christmas, but I'll probably weaken by the time it's actually available.

And Brian, don't forget the Blu-Ray high definition versions.

Have you guys seen the differences between the Special Editions that came out in 1997 and these Ultimate Editions?

At least, apparently, the Han/Greedo scene seems to be more bearable now, although far from perfect.

And you're right, Brian. I guess if I was into Lord of the Rings at all, I'd be insane by now!

Have you heard Spielberg wants to release a Raiders of the Lost Ark 2-disc Special Edition?

I recently read in two separate magazines that the dvd releases are not the originals (1977 versions) nor are they the 1997 versions. Apparently Lucas has modified Star Wars:A New Hope so that episode 3 will better blend into it. Apparently there were story line continuity issues that forced more changes. I haven't heard whether Empire or Return has been changed.

I am going to buy it. Classic Star Wars towers over the feeble prequels. I wish they didn't change so much of it. You don't change classics. It is as if you inserted Pochatas into Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Thanks for that link MKCustodial. I just looked at it and most of the changes I agree with, but the only one I really don't like is that crap about having Hayden Christiansen be the Anakin ghost at the end of Jedi. If you're going to be that stupid to make that replacement, since Anakin was an old man when he died, then why not go all the way with the stupidity and put Ewan MacGregor in place of Sir Alec Guiness in all the scenes after his death. Also, when Luke looks over and sees the three spirits, wouldn't he look at the Anakin one and think "Who the hell is the kid? He looks younger than me." It's just so stupid.

Wow! Cool link Roddy. I didn't even know they were revising anything beyond what they did in the special editions. It will be really weird seeing Hayden Christiensen in the end (I feel sort of bad for the guy who got digitally erased, I hope he kept an old VHS so his grandkids will believe he was in it).

Aaaaaaaah, I was ready to disagree with you for a minute since OB1 told Luke his father died before he was born and then explained later that he ceased to be anakin when he became Darth Vader . . . but then I remembered that he redeemed himself in the end, so I'm assuming he was Anakin again for a short time before he died.

Interesting point!

Yep, his final words to Luke: "Tell your sister, you were right.... You were right." So once he was redeemed to the light side, he became Anakin once again. He was free of the darkness and no longer Vader once that mask was removed. Plus for at least the first half of Episode II, before he went all psycho, I felt that he was horrible as Anakin and his acting was wooden. Hopefully, he'll do better in "Revenge of the Sith" or else that movie is just going to be too painful to watch.

Not only do I have it pre-ordered at Suncoast, but it's all paid off, too. So I'll just walk in and then walk out with it. Hooray! :sohappy:

Ordered mine last night from Amazon. One of the bonuses is an XBOX demo of Galactic Battlefront. Sealed the deal for me.

Creepy. I start to read this post and the commercial for it comes on...

LOL. I definitely agree with you there. It doesn't make sense.

And, BTW, Entertainment Weekly this week (just came out) has the original gang on the cover, and lots of info (like the changes, etc.) inside. Even a spoiler or two about Star Wars III buried in the articles. Worth buying this week. Just came in the mail, should be in newstands in the U.S.A. by Tuesday.

"I've got it preordered I've got it preordered"...

BAH!! I have it in my HANDS mwahahahaha!!!!!
My girlfriend preordered them for my birthday and they came in on Friday. I've already watched them and they look AMAZING. The sound (if you have SS) is totally awesome. The opening scene with the Star Destroyer makes you feel like youre in a theater. The special features are great and I have no complaints about any enhanced/new scenes. My only minor complaint is especially in A New Hope, the sound sometimes flip flops from "new and improved 2004" to "1977 and a bit muffled". You begin to notice this AFTER Tarkin interrogates Leia about the Rebel Base. It's nothing too horrible but it seems a little weird at times especially in the garbage dump scene on the death star. Oh well..
