Star Wars Weekends 2014

Thankfully, this is one thing I'm not going to miss. I remember signing my son up for the Padawan Mind challenge in 2012. The later show, about an hour before the Hoopla. Couldn't even get close enough to the stage to get good pictures of him due to all the off-duty cast members and lifestylers camped out for the show.
I was there for that night near the front row. They let all the kid's parents right in front of the barrier in front of the stage. No crowds to fight, the parents were in that big empty space. Maybe you just didn't get the message to go there.

This news of the fifth weekend is awesome. I will get to attend now. We are going to be down the 9th to the 16th. Funny thing we were not even going to Disney parks this year. Only Universal and now those plans will change. Really happy about this news.

As I speculated in the Star Wars Weekends thread when it was announced there'd be a fireworks show at then of each day of SWW, the Hyperspace Hoopla has been officially axed.

I can only speculate that this decision was made from Kathleen Kennedy due to the new direction she wants to take Star Wars. I've specualted since she took over that this doesn't sound like something she'd approve of. I have been a huge supporter of hers, but she's now axed my two current favorite things about Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV Show and The Hyperspace Hoopla.

This is a complete kick in the gut. The Hoopla was the very best thing of Star Wars Weekends and had become one of the only reasons we attend each year. We actually get our Annual Passes primarily because of SWW and the Hoopla is the main reason we endure the crowds for the same basic event year after year.

I would personally like to thank the actors who portrayed Snig and Oopla. You were amazing and brought more joy to people than they could ever know. I'm dismayed to know we'll never see you in those roles again.

As bad as this news is, it's even worse that they didn't allow the Hoopla a "Farewell Tour" and let them do one more year as the last.

In my opinion Hyper space hoopla was cheesey and really just bad overall for the characters, you take serious characters and have them break dancing it just really hurts the spirit of the film IMO. I don't wanna see darth vader do the two step anymore than I want to see lord voldemort do the cha cha slide. It just isn't faithful to the writing and reeks of cheese and selling out. Plus the crowds alone were TERRIBLE. I think this is a smart decision for the brand and the park. Have star wars be taken seriously with a dash of that fun it always has had.

I wonder if this year's Star Wars Weekends will be used to announce any Star Wars related projects for the parks.. (I'm hoping DHS and not Tomorrowland). Timing seems right since there has been current speculation that something would "be announced soon regarding it.)

Well if everything is still on hold at the moment as many on here say I wouldn't think anything about the parks will be announced. I do think that we are going to get some sort of substance for the next film perhaps casting announcements or concept art or even a basic plot summary. Something along those lines, but no I don't think anything for starwars land will be announced.

Thank Mickey that someone saw the light and decided to stop making a joke out of one of the best cinematic villains ever created.

Can't say I'll miss characters like Ashoka doing suggestive dances to a crowd of mostly children.

More fireworks, less weird weird weird stuff.

Yeah, that stinks. I've never had a chance to do Star Wars Weekends and I've desperately wanted to mainly to see this show.

If it was Kennedy's decision, I can understand it, but I don't necessarily agree with it. Star Wars works best when it doesn't take itself too seriously. Yes, there should be some melodrama, but there should also be some light-hearted fun and comedy, which is something that the prequels lacked. And don't say, "What about Jar-Jar?" - he is to Star Wars what Mr. Derp was to the South Park cafeteria.

I was all for the humour of Hyperspace Hoopla, however, the marketing machine will start to kick in within the next year for the new films.... Having your characters joke around is going to distract from the film. I understand why this has been pulled.

Excited for the fireworks.... It's always lovely to see pyro in the sky above Hollywood Studios!
