Star Wars Weekends 2014

If only there was a large, unnecessary object taking up space there they could remove for better viewing...

;)

...I'll leave now.
You jest, but my good man, the Force may be with us. You may be onto something.

After the great succes of the fireworks last year, WDW has apparantly decided to make fireworks a permanent fixture of DHS' entertainment. This will inevitbly create great pressure from operations on management to get rid of the hat.

Crowd control is expensive! As are crowds standing in planters and on garbage cans. As are angry guests and pictures on Twitter of crying eight year old SW fans who couldn't see anything on their birthday trip.

To be fair, the demand of Billy Dee is exponentially higher than any of the other guests.

"This isn't a personal shot at you, but people tend to have unrealistically high expectations of celebrities. Almost an entitlement attitude. When a celebrity tires of it and becomes a bit more mundane in the public, there is an outcry over what a jerk that person is. Which is totally unfair."

I got him at Chiller Theatre in NJ a few years back and he wouldn't even look up at people, just signed photos and pushed them away. One of the least friendly SW celebs, unfortunately.[/quote]

All I can say is i don't care if he's nice or not but I'm just excited that Mark Hamill has decided to come back to Star Wars Weekends this year. I'll definitely be getting up early to get a fastpass for him.

Mark Hamill is going to be there? Where did you hear this? I met him a loooooong time ago and he was extremely friendly. He'd make a great SWW guest.

Yeah, by all accounts Mark Hamill is a nice guy. Also, I've heard he's got enough money that he can do pretty much whatever he wants. And, while some will forever link him as Luke Skywalker, to me, it's his Joker character that I hope he winds up being best known for.

I would say from all the years that it has ran and the fan reaction, it is a highlight for many. Obviously not for all.

I never had much use for the show, but I've been shocked by the almost universal condemnation of this on Facebook--not just my lifestyler friends who go in costume every weekend, but Disney fans I thought were only vaguely aware the movies even existed. We're talking near "closing of PI" outrage.

Does anyone know if the face characters will be the same this year without the Hoopla? My understanding is that an outside company was contracted to put on the show, and I know the actors in the show were the face characters throughout the day.

We've seen the same people every year (although I think there was a new Leia last year), and many of them remember my son. It'd be a shame to see them go.

First time in history someone has suggested going to MK to avoid a crowd.

SWW isn't that bad if you do it right. Get there first thing in the AM, don't go Memorial Day weekend, etc...

I am a huge fan as well. we were going to be in WDW the last sunday of SWW and now that they added the extra weekend, we will be there for the entire last weekend which i am SSSOOOOOOOOOOO excited for. I will just drag my kids (and bring lots of drinks and snacks and iPads). there is no way i am missing the photo and autograph sessions or the discussions and parades and fireworks.

I see your point...I think he would be happier hanging out at Mk with the rest of the family instead of waiting In line with me for autographs..especially if we get there at 4 a.m.

While I loved the Hoopla the first couple years, to be honest, they pretty much just recycle the same jokes and dance numbers now, so I think it is time to let it go. If the fireworks are the same (or even similar) to the ones on May the Fourth, I think they'll be a more than fitting replacement.

I'm curious about 2 things. First, will the extra weekend help spread out the crowds a little bit over the whole event? I tried going twice this past year: gave up the first weekend because they were having us park @ EPCOT and be bussed over, second weekend didn't stay very long because we could barely move. Not at all enjoyable for an 8 year old and infant.

Second, with the advent of FP+ and the MB's, will the autograph ticket process be changed? As an autograph collector and SW fan, the current process of passing out the tickets several hours before park opening bugs me to no end. I know, it alleviates the mad dash to the machines that used to occur once the gates opened, but @ the same time, it's not really fair to those who can't line up with their entire parties in the middle of the night just to get a wristband (especially those like me with small children that belong in bed @ that hour).

However, with the FP+ system, they can eliminate the pre-opening distribution all together and give more people an opportunity to get an autograph fastpass. If they make each autograph session a Tier 1 attraction, each person would still be limited to one autograph like in the old system, and would also open up more FP's for TSMM and RRC. They can hold aside a set amount of autograph FP's for day-of selections just like they do normal attraction FP's, that way those that don't have MB's still have a shot at getting one as, as well.
