Someone was hypothesizing on Twitter this may be a result of people cancelling trips due to the situation in Florida. Will be interested to see if this is a one off or what.
I have a stay coming up next week at Poly and we had an issue with the reservation related to room type and when I was talking to the operator he said they would have no issue fixing it at check in because they have seen a bunch of cancellations so they have a lot of room availability now. Anecdotal, but between indoor masks, covid case numbers, tropical storms and the upcoming new additions starting 10/1 this could be a bit of a lull in attendance at WDW. Maybe wishful thinking on my part :)

Or is it people cancelling because of the mask requirement? It’s been just long enough that people had some lead time to react to the change.

Florida and other southern area states went back to school this week right? I think attendance typically dips around this time

Sounds like you may have a very nice, easy trip. I hope so. It also means less risk for you!

I honestly think far more would cancel over the numbers in Florida then having to wear a mask indoors.

Yes on back to school. Some this past week and some the upcoming week. There is usually a drop off in attendance the last few weeks in August because of that.

So ignoring how long it took for Boarding Groups to all be booked, they eventually all ran out right? So what is the reason that Boarding Groups alone didn’t fill up the ride for the day:

1. The ride had a great day operationally and didn’t have downtime and so it cycled through all the groups?

2. people signed up for boarding groups but didn’t show up to ride?

3. they are making the boarding groups smaller (seems very unlikely)?

other reasons? It’s one thing if Boarding Groups just didn’t run out, that would indicate not enough demand. But if they did all get distributed for the day (eventually), how was their able to be standby?

Low attendance and not allowing people to get more than one boarding group a day.

Yesterday was absolutely due to low attendance. We’ve seen groups well into 170+ before with no significant change to boarding group open time. There was definitely a lower number of people in the park so the groups didn’t fill as fast.

Even more so, anyone park hopping could have snagged a group. Not allowing for re rides also kept the group obtain to call rate probably relatively stable once the afternoon hit. Also to note, they’ve called all groups administered in days prior especially before covid, but this is the first I can recall seeing a stand by opened. I guess they were feeling confident. As a guest, I wish there were more days like this.
