Rode it back in December, thinking of going Sunday and also trying to do Mickeys Railway. Is it still a show up before 7am to get a BG thing ?

So in the ongoing effort to appease my 🧠 I’ve tested @Joel timing methods.

03/11/20 - loaded MDE at 7:59:15 and Join Boarding Group was NOT red at 8am. Reason - the app sends a request upon initial load and then blocks additional requests for 60 seconds, so it was grayed out until 8:00:15 when it turned red.

3/12/20 - loaded MDE at 7:57:35 and Join Boarding Group was red at 8am. Reason - the app sent a request upon initial load and then expires after 60 seconds, so it was ready to go and available anytime AFTER 7:58:35.

REMINDER: the initial request the app makes upon loading blocks any additional requests to get a boarding group (on the first screen) for 60 seconds BUT does not send any follow up requests automatically and is then triggered AGAIN once you press FIND OUT MORE.

Screwed up the test on my Android phone today because I was also testing and recording on my iPhone at the same time. The iPhone test worked perfectly, though, even loading the app at The Time That Must Not Be Named. Tomorrow I'll be focusing on the Android to make sure this alternative method is solid.

One thing worth noting is that I was just kind of randomly tapping around the app at 7:57, and after tapping the plus icon at the bottom and then Order Food, I was asked to sign in again. I assume it may have asked me at some point while trying to join a BG if I hadn't gone to the mobile order screen.

If you have fingerprint login (or I guess Face ID on newer iPhones) enabled on the app, this wouldn't be a huge deal. But it's still going to surprise you and slow you down if you're randomly asked to log in while trying to get a BG, which is one of the reasons I'm hoping we can have a method for starting the app at any arbitrary earlier time.

So, has anyone ever encountered (or know of someone who has) being asked to log in again while trying to join a boarding group, or does this not happen?

On 3/11 did Join Boarding Group just turn red by itself at 8:00:15 or did you have to refresh or go back and forth between screens first?

I got 110 yesterday, but was really frustrated that the app wouldn’t let me join a group (button greyed out) despite following all the guidance from cast members and friends to use cellular, until I gave up and used the WiFi about 40 seconds after opening time. Not sure if this is because I’m using a British SIM connected to AT&T or just bad luck. Thankfully it had a good day and I was able to ride.

I still let guest relations know that I think there’s too much faith put into an unreliable app and Disney’s IT infrastructure to facilitate this entire “lottery” process. I mean, I get the ride has downtime at the moment but if you’re attracting people like us to travel 3,000 miles because of how heavily marketed your new land is I think it’s a crazy system to expect guests to participate in. Particularly if your 6am start on one of your limited vacation days doesn’t guarantee you a ride.

Not sure what the alternatives could be to be honest (except maybe finding a way to allocate people who’ve ridden before to a backup group and give first timers priority?).

It was a great ride, but the experience beforehand was too stressful for my liking on vacation!

I did navigate back to that screen when it populated.

I haven’t tested it yet by just sitting on that screen and waiting for it to appear. Based on @Joel explanations I doubt that would work as you need a “trigger” to send the request again.

Now I'm curious with our new information on how crucial the timing can be in the morning. What process did you use to get a group? When was your app opened? Were you swiping between screens prior to 8?
