I can’t see how operating a ride at capacity is a good thing for the guests.
Good thing that extra magic hours thing didn’t go through.. that would be awful having such a low demand and being open extra hours.......

Virtual queue is the best thing they could do. Makes sure people actually get to enjoy the rest of the park (and spend) while waiting as opposed to people sticking to one line for hours and hours. Not to mention, if there's issue with it having to close, less ire from people than it would have if someone stuck to a line for 6 hours only to be told the ride is now closed due to ops problems

A normal queue could not be closed at 9am though. The general rule is that you can enter a line until park close. With boarding groups that is not possible.
Yes. It’s better (in my opinion) than when Universal closed off the queue at a random time each evening for Hagrid (after opening at a random time). Basically texting guests when they can ride is much more fair.

The Virtual Queue idea for Day 1 is genius by whoever came up with it. It allows for great publicity, keeps much of the downtime secret, keeps a slow-moving line from making any news due to low first day capacity, and additionally allows guests to enjoy the park while they wait instead of just standing. It's a fantastic system given they've been forced to open a ride that isn't ready, and given that the ride looks to be incredible in many ways.

So I was unaware of this virtual queue thing. If I wanted to go Saturday or Sunday by myself I should plan on going very early then? I assumed I could show up mid morning or whenever and just wait a really long time (wife is out of town so I dont mind waiting by myself) to ride but it seems like you must get a boarding group very early on?

Also if the ride goes down and they empty the queue, you don't completely lose your place... You still have a group. Plus you can use the restroom, eat, drink, ride other rides, shop, ride the skyliner to epcot, go back to the hotel and relax for a bit,... Wait, how is this up for debate?

I am guessing they will keep this system for the next couple of days. I would recommend to be there early for rope drop so you can join a boarding group.

Yes that is correct. Be there as early as possible.
