Wife started a new job at a high school and they were like "if you plan a vacation when school is in session, please send us your resignation letter." So we arrive on the 21st now. Surprisingly, I got all of the Fastpasses we wanted. I was shocked. It was easier than President's Weekend, and there STILL is a lot of availability. Not sure what to make of that. Otherwise, we will enjoy some dining, take in Christmas, and enjoy each other's company at 5 am outside DHS. There's no where better than Christmas with your family, wherever you are.

I think the only way to really work out the kinks is to do it while in operation. It just depends on your perspective. If it didnt open until Feb 1 and all the kinks were worked out then all the people riding it now would not have been able to. I just look at it as this is all a bonus.

Or even worse, if it opened Feb 1 and all the kinks still weren't worked out, people would question what the delay even was for.

Perhaps so, Martin, but you of all people understand that overly ambitious launch dates are part of the long history of Disney Parks. We all have heard the stories of how DL opened with half the rides not working reliably, inoperable drinking fountains, and high-heeled ladies getting stuck in the fresh asphalt. Somehow, they survived opening day, got stuff working, and people came back. And Chapek had nothing to do with it, BTW. This too shall pass.

My plan for sure. We'll ride some rides, but that's not the main reason we go any more.

We'll be back next week for our last stay this year. We booked well after our 60 day window, but there's still been ton of both hotel and FP availability every time I recheck our rates and FP's.

We’ve been hearing for years about how exceptionally reliable the MDE app is. Thank goodness the same top men who developed WDW IT infrastructure also did the same for rise of the resistance.

We're also immediately placing blame without knowing the full story... We don't know how/why these users failed. Was location services off? Were they too close to the front? Was their MDE app updated? Was the backend overloaded and not updating gate entry info efficiently? Was there something else?

What we do know is.. the system has worked for most people for a week. Maybe they had a failure.. maybe we had a rash of people with different failures?

I'll go further than that, and say I would have voted to not open any of Galaxy's Edge until it is all 100% ready.

The difference is, TT had a 4 month soft opening period to at least get it to somewhat functional consistency, ROTR had no soft opening and has totally unpredictable consistency.

What do you think they've been doing in RoTR for the last quarter? This is not 'build it, open it'. The thing has been in testing for ages - just not with the public. Softs are more about training and extra entropy into the testing. The testing and refinement are clearly more for this vs normal... but the harping on 'no softs' as if that would have magically replaced what was missing is naive as well.

That I think might be the new normal with the current tiering. The 8AM hour FPs on RnR and TSM I assume are there from a park hour adjustment? But with the new tiering, if you assume SDD goes first no matter what, attendance of 50,000 (a rough guesstimate of Christmas DHS attendance last year) would only get the other 4 rides about 8 hours of pre-booked fast passes. DHS is open 14 hours that day this year, and most people suck at prebooking Fastpasses.
